This magazine follows a minimalistic and raw theme that plays with the fact that the magazine showcases the trends in its one ingredient rather that the meal, but of course there are some receipt suggestions there too. The magazine is divided into two sections; the food&drink and a style file. These two sections contain slightly different typefaces and different paper stock - 100 % cotton for the food part as its more rough and handmade like that gives of that authentic feel and works with the food presented. The style file contains a more whiter and smooth paper that looks more luxurious and fashion like. 

Suitcase magazine focuses on fashion and travel. The size of it is small and packed - like a suitcase I guess. The layouts are very composed and minimalistic making it easy to read and follow. 

Sidetracked magazine. This magazine mostly focuses on travel and has the most beautiful images that take up most of the spreads, but they do it well to organise it all in a way that the reader would still read a story through the images and have some text they can concentrate on. I really like the spread where the image on the right eats onto the page on the left, and the text that is preset is centered, something that I would think you had to do is align it left. 

Caffeine magazine is something I have a few issues of purely for the layout and authenticity of the magazine. The paper that it is printed of is just a little thicker than newsprint, stabled together in the middle and distributed for free in more hip like coffee shops and bars.

Looking at Waterstones at food/cooking books. I found the new Deliciously Ella book and was drawn to her division pages as it was something I was struggling with. I liked her use of colour to divide  the different section, and the simple line illustrations that give you a brief introduction to what the section is about.

Boat magazine. I feel that this magazine is extremely playful with the way they compose their pages. They are structured but in a way that breaks ruled but yet they still make it work. The pages are full of information and images but yet they are all given room to breathe to allow for the reader to pause and comprehend the information. 

I collected a lot of magazines and zines, handling them to see what feels easier to hold and allows for a quick flick through. Then also measuring a few to see what my layouts would look like on those.

 Aesthetica fashion magazine. Looking at how they arrange limited text on a large white space ground. I have noticed that its mostly centred on the page set with a large tittle with a generous amount of space in between to utilise the most out of white space.

This is an article in Eye magazine about an artist who created a ‘type’ using all of London’s iconic sights. It was very interesting, and i loved the way it was layered out on the page, and the addition of ‘pop’ colour through a yellow insert.

I found this photography book in the library and was drawn to its layouts. I found it very interesting to how they used a black background with so much text as I believe it is a lot harder to read on black, but however I did notice that the text size is slightly bigger than the other pages. I also liked the way they organised their images to make the most use out of white space. 

Boat Magazine: 

Also, this book divides its information by country as well as three parts in which coffee is explored. I find this interesting and very useful to see in order to understand how to form and divide my information into categories and to make it flow through my publication. 

A food book. I like again the simple layouts and the use of colour and illustrations in this one.

I really like the use of white space and simplicity within these layouts. I also like the different colour of text for the subtitles.
