Things to do this week to fine tune your presentation.

1. Check List

What do you need to bring? Props, equipment, snacks?

Make a list and make sure everyone knows what to bring.

2. Location

Are you presenting in a certain site or room around campus? Is that site booked, cleared and ready for next week?

If you are using the class room do you need to reorganise it? Let Vicky know if you need to move desks etc.

3. Order of presenting

A couple of groups have requested presentation times. Is it better that you go first or last? Book a time with Vicky.

4. Rehearse and test.

Often Live works or presentations don’t always go as you imagined or planned. Practice makes perfect, so use today’s class time to test what you are going to do.

5. Research

Make sure you have posted your research and process onto your Tumblrs. This includes referencing any practitioners work you have used or investigated.  Include information about links to class topics. Your research can be in any form such as a PDF on Google drive linked to your Tumblr. Research is collaborative not an individual presentation.

Heidegger asks the question What is a Thing? and reflects upon this question, unpacking what materials and objects are (thingness).

In your groups read from page 165 and discuss his ideas in relation to what you are producing.

It is very important that you attend this weeks class as it is the last week before you present your final group project. Don't let your group down!

Make sure you use the class time wisely to research, test, experiment and rehearse delivering your event to the class. You can also use the time to book spaces, finalise equipment and any materials that you may need.

Remember your event needs to be engaging, well researched and stimulating and NOT a boring power point or video work (no pressing play and sitting down)!

The Youth Collective are inviting passionate young creatives and youth ambassadors from arts and cultural organisations to join them for a day of lively discussion, knowledge sharing and collaborative thinking.

Remember  we are visiting both the AGNSW and Artspace tomorrow.

Here is the Gallery Task:

Working in your allocated groups for assignment three collaborate to do the following task

At the AGNSW: 

Staying on the entrance floor study the European and Australian 19th and 20th Century Art (on the right side as you enter the Gallery).

Identify three different ways Desire is playing out within 19th and 20th century painting. Create three separate image montages to demonstrate your research, you can also use text or sound within your montages.

You have 40 mins to complete this task, then meet out the front (Vicky will give you a time) to walk to Artspace which is 10 mins away.

At Artspace repeat the above task to engage with works in the exhibition.

How has Desire as a theme or topic changed from 19 and 20th century readings?

Post everything on your Tumblr.

Instructions for glitch exercise:

1. Open Photoshop and create a file 72 DPI 1920 x 1080 pixels is fine

2. Make a very basic drawing using the shape tools, two or three shapes are fine for a start. (Follow Vicky’s in class instructions if you have trouble doing this)

3. Save your file - This is very important to get right ….

Save as: TIFF - ok Then select these options:

5. Open Audacity and go to File - Import - raw data and change settings to:

6. Turn down the volume and listen to your drawing!

7. Now select small sections of the sound wave and apply some effects (not too many or it won’t like it, I found reverb is good) Follow Vicky in class if you can’t do this bit.

Assignment Two Presentations:

Find a partner and take turns helping each other make a short two minute (or less) creative presentation to your partners work. You could make a video, interesting powerpoint (if possible), sound work, a digital collage, an installation that you will present to the class. You are not presenting your own work but that of your partners.

Rules:

You cannot talk about your own work, you can only talk about your partners in the presentation.

You may like to do an interview or documentary style response about each others project

or you could present a more creative work about the work.

Class Task week 8 VALUE

Working in groups of three or four you need to make a cardboard sculpture.

Rules:

Your sculpture needs to be between 30 cm and 1 meter tall (no smaller).

Your sculpture needs to be freestanding and able to be picked up and moved.

Your sculpture cannot be representational (I.E. no cats, monkeys, people)

Your sculpture needs to be an interesting and engaging shape

You have 20 mins to complete your sculpture.

When you have finished on a whiteboard make a drawing of your sculpture and beside your drawing list the different values residing in your piece. What value based decisions did you make during the production process? What future value is contained in the work? (10 mins)

With the rest of the class take your sculpture down to the Makerspace where we will make a 3D scan of it. Does making a 3D scan of your sculpture change it’s value? Discuss with the group.

Class Task Ecology:

DISCUSSION: Culture is traditionally thought of as something done by humans for humans. This does not take into account the collaborative, parasitic, symbiotic relationships that are in all creative production and the ecologies in which we operate. Creative practice allows us to think outside the purely human and broaden our understanding of the ecologies in which we operate.

ACTIVITY:
