When we enter the society, we realize the importance of emotional quotation. Emotional quotation is actually many different masks for each person to hide their feelings.

People in today's society are hiding their true feelings. The mask is the main object of this film. The existence of masks magnifies people's emotions and attitudes on the appearance, and shows that this is not the true feeling in people's heart.

Life is like drama, drama is like life. On the big stage of society, everyone is an actor.

I have surveyed many friends in middle and high school, and they all say that Since entering the university, they have to constantly disguise themselves. 

The reason is that most people in society are like this. And they think take masks also a means of self-protection.

The sociologist goffman proposed the famous theory of drama, which holds that everyone is an actor on the stage, using various props (language signs, body movement signs, emojis, text signs, etc.) to design or present their images in advance, and strive to be recognized by all audiences.

Assessment 3: Process and Final Outcome

The theme we chose was desire and we wanted to test what desire is more important to individuals. Each balloon had a specific desire on it (e.g. high education, family/friends, travelling, social media, property). Wearing a poncho you would grab a pin and pop a balloon depending on what you prefer. We made it more challenging as you only had 3 seconds to choose a balloon which you desired more giving it an immediate reaction. This was to see what you would immediately choose rather than overthinking it and changing your mind constantly. The reasoning for different materials within the balloons is to give a sudden emotion or reaction. Desire is in-spontaneous and you never know what to expect so we wanted to add in that element of surprise. We also thought adding paper on the floor would help us collect our results (like a survey) and would also colourfully show what people desired the most. 

Each of the colours represented a desire, e.g. family/friends was red for love, high education was orange, property was yellow, good income was green for money, travelling was blue and social media was purple. There were also different materials within each of the balloons depending on what colour you chose, for example it was either diluted coloured water, rocks, sand, glitter, cut up foam and sequins.

We think it is very difficult to express emotions through photos. People can't hear the sound，they only can receive information from the visual. So we spent a lot of time thinking about how to make a good visual look for the photo. For example, when we took this photo of wrath, we did some experiments to see which way to better express anger and out of control. We think when people get angry they will trying to broke the things.Our initial idea was to smash the paper into pieces, tear them apart and break the glass. After seeing the final effect, we thought that this could not intuitively express the emotion of anger and the white colour of the paper made the whole picture have some monotony. Then we thought of using cans to make this visual look, we squeezed the cans hard. We think this can be more intuitive to express the feelings of anger. The cans we chose were Coca-Cola cans, which is a very classic drink. His packaging color is red, red is also able to show the color of anger, red makes this picture more impactful.

River Abstraction - assessment 3

This composition is the result of ongoing experimentation bending data to make various work that extends the constraints of media technology and design. Deceptively simple, this work has been composed by dragging the mov file from the work below into a music software program and converting it to midi.

Using a basic sine wave, I have applied minimal editing including tuning to a key.  The space of the piece, the intervals, velocity and the silence in between notes were laid down by the conversion of the mov to wav. In effect the below piece wrote the above piece. This event was arrived at purely through experimentation and unconventional use of digital software. Conceptually It is an ongoing living project that has many iterations, including a text score, a folk song, movement, video and sound. Influences here include Brian Eno early and recent works.
