AGNSW Repetition Task
This week the topic is Repetition.
In this class we are examining different ways repetition resides in creative practice.
Repetition comes into consideration when you are making a collection or series of works (such as a fashion range or a collection of images).
Repetition can also form, re-enforce and make meaning within a work or within a creative practice.
For more information check out the resources on Moodle.
Gallery Task:
In pairs:
Travelling through the AGNSW curate a collection of seemingly unrelated works or parts /sections of works into a series. Document them using your phone. What connects these works together? What is your chosen rational or theme that is repeated throughout your series?
and then:
Identify a work in the Gallery that uses repetition to produce meaning/content within the work.
Interview each other about the work and post your interview onto your Tumblr.
Once you have finished these tasks come and see me before you leave I’ll be hanging out near the from desk.

Perception class task
Working in your groups transform your allocated sculpture into something entirely different changing the way the object is perceived. Â
Try:
camouflaging it
relocating it
re-contextualising it
remaking it
disguising it
Making it sexy
Making it scary
Making it really old
A fetishised object
Making it useful
Making it familiar
Try to think beyond just taking a photograph of it.
Before you start:
Take an image of your sculpture and post onto Tumblr.
Discuss what you think your sculpture references, where it’s cultural location is, what it is about?
(take about 40 mins)
There is a prize for the best transformed work!!!!!

Documentation
We’ve already emphasised the importance of using documentation to track the development of your process. This week we’re pushing this further to think about how documentation can be used creatively in its own right. We're also considering the concepts that arise from the act of documenting. Does the documentation change the thing being documented? Does documentation have a relationship with time + memory?
Activity: In small groups, choose a work from the Biennale of Sydney or the MCA Collection. Experiment with documenting the work in an unconventional way to produce a new outcome. The aim is to use documentation creatively as a form of 'translation’, rather than to reproduce the original work as it is. Think about other mediums besides photography e.g. sound, performance, light, measurement, drawing, text, talk, video etc. (60 mins)
Editing
Selection, arrangement, deletion, addition etc. are fundamental processes in art and design. How is selection part of your creative process? What happens when we add or remove something from our work? How can bringing multiple elements together create new conceptual or aesthetic relationships?
Activity: Individually, select 3-5 different works you think are related conceptually or materially. Isolate and capture one element from each. Then edit these separate elements together into a new work. (30 mins)
