I adopted DJ 12/23/22 from Baltimore County Animal Shelter. He is 15. He was surrendered to be euthanized because of his age and they said his health was declining. The shelter examined him and determined that he was healthy enough to be put up for adoption even though he did have the beginning signs of hyperthyroidism. I saw his adorable face on Facebook and had to have him. Little did I know he was worse off than anyone expected. He has been on Methimazole in pill form and transdermal. He started the transdermal ($75 for 2 months) on 2/22/23 and we had a few good weeks but he is back to vomiting and having diarrhea. His doctor is now prescribing y/d Thyroid Care dry food ($42 from Chewy) and that's all he is to eat. I-131 treatment is our next option. Unfortunately I do not have the funds to pay for the treatment. The cost is $2465.00 and that doesn't include x-rays and updated blood work. I'm trying my all to save him but financially I'm strapped.
