This book left me so speechless that I just had to write about it. I'm not really sure where to start to be honest. The first Donna Tartt book I read was The Goldfinch. I loved every part of that book. I was entertained by every page and not at one point, during the 800+ pages, was I bored or impatient. I didn't ever think 'why do you need to write three pages about something that doesn't even matter', which is something I often think whilst reading a book, I think every reader knows what I mean. So after finishing The Goldfinch I just had to buy her other books. I just finished The Secret History, and I must admit that it left me with a sort of hole in my heart. I don't want to spend my time giving a resume of the book, because that's not what I wanna write about. I wanna write about how it made me feel. All of these characters had a special place in my heart from start to beginning. Except Richard. Now I know that Richard is the narrator and he is the person we're supposed to feel the strongest connection to, but I didn't feel a connection to him, I felt like I was him. Every time he described something, a feeling, a vision, I felt like it was me. The narration of this book is so special. I have never felt more present, whilst reading a book. When he saw Camilla and his heart started to pump faster, I felt like mine pumped faster. When he was facinated by Henry, I was facinated. When he laughed with Charles, I felt happiness.

Whenever we, as readers, as Richard, didn't know what was going on, but knew that something was off, my heart started to pump faster. I felt a sort of dislike towards Henry and the others, because they weren't telling the truth. I felt like it was me they wouldn't tell their secret to. I felt like I was their friend, but I wasn't accepted completely before they shared the big secret. I have never felt like i actually was the narrator, as much as I felt with this book. I don't know if Donna Tartt is a genius or this book just pushed all the right buttons with me, but this book will stay with me until I am old and grey.
