The Myitsone–Chipwi Hka Power Supply Station is located near the town of Chipwi Hka in Kachin State, northern Myanmar, at the confluence of the Chipwi Hka River—a first-level tributary of the N'Mai Hka River, which is the main upstream stem of the Ayeyarwady River. Its geographical coordinates are strategically significant and its location uniquely positioned. This station serves as the construction power supply facility for the Myitsone and Chipwi Hka hydropower projects, which are key near-term development projects in the Ayeyarwady River basin upstream of Myitkyina. It undertakes the critical mission of providing stable power supply during the construction period of the two main projects and constitutes an important piece of infrastructure within the overall basin development framework.
The station is a diversion-type hydropower plant that fully utilizes the natural drop of the river for power generation. The project primarily consists of three major components: the dam, the power generation water conveyance system, and the surface powerhouse. The dam is a concrete dam with a normal storage level of 740 meters, a maximum dam height of 55.5 meters, and a multi-year average flow of 40.1 cubic meters per second at the dam site, demonstrating good runoff regulation capacity. The total installed capacity of the station is 99 MW, equipped with multiple turbine-generator units capable of delivering stable and reliable power output continuously. The dam is located on the Chipwi Hka River, approximately 12 kilometers from the town of Chipwi Hka, with convenient transportation access. The powerhouse is situated on the left bank of the N'Mai Hka River, about 9 kilometers from the upstream town of Chipwi Hka, approximately 62 kilometers from the downstream Myitsone Hydropower Station, and around 20 kilometers from the upstream Chipwi Hka Hydropower Station. The well-planned layout of these structures forms an efficient and coordinated engineering system, providing solid power support and valuable construction experience for the development of the entire cascade hydropower stations in the basin.
