nerida is a loud, jolly woman who has a larger-than-life personality that can light up a room. she can also be quite flirtatious when it comes to persuading to get her way (it doesn't always work, ask hawkins).
but under the happy-go-lucky demeanor, nerida is very loyal to her friends and is not afraid to get violent to protect herself and loved ones. above all, nerida is humble and knows how to keep calm in stressful situations.
unlike some of her fellow fish-men and merfolk, she holds no prejudice towards humans. she even goes as far to not only help them but also fell in love with one.
ABILITIES:
being a mermaid, she can breathe underwater and swim at incredible speed. she can also communicate with fish by either singing or calling out to them (mainly through sonar waves). no matter the option, she can get them to do her bidding.

nerida was born on fish-man island in ryugu kingdom. she is 1/4 human thanks to her human grandmother, which is where her last name came from. she grew up in a loving home where she and her parents lived peacefully... until one day. when nerida was sixteen, she and her parents were kidnapped by world nobles and sold into slavery. due to the harsh conditions, her mother would pass away from working herself to death. futher adding to her woes, her father would later follow soon after. once fisher tiger freed as many slaves as he could; her father chose to be one of the many to help stay and fight, persuading nerida to run. he never made it out, choosing to sacrifice his life to save his daughter's.
before long, she would be alone until coming across fisher tiger. after some convincing by her, she would be allowed to join the sun pirates as their cook. when koala came along, nerida became very protective of her and even defended her against arlong's abuse alongside hatchan. she always believed that being cruel to humans back was not the answer.
after fisher tiger's death and the sun pirates splitting up, nerida would stay with her grandmother on an island and became one of the village's merchants. one day when out swimming, nerida saw the hawkins pirates ship, the grudge dolph; pass by and was drawn to it. this would make her quietly follow the ship out of curiosity. when the hawkins pirates gets into a fight with an enemy ship, basil hawkins is knocked overboard. nerida immediately dives after him before he drowns due to his devil fruit.
although he predicted that someone would save his life, he is still very much grateful. a few crew members convince him to let her join the crew and he agrees. nerida would bid her grandmother goodbye and become a pirate crew's cook once more. she would eventually fall in love with hawkins and he would reluctantly return her feelings as well.
RELATIONSHIPS:
basil hawkins - her captain, her lover, the moon to her sun. they may be the epitome of opposites attract, but nerida knows that he loves her more than anything. during the timeskip, hawkins would propose to her when they're alone.
koala - her surrogate little sister who she always kept an eye on during her travels with the sun pirates. whenever she could, she would do her best to protect the younger girl. nerida was thankfully able to reunite with her years later and they had a tearful reunion.
