just looked it up. holy fuck. they did it by de-duplicating assets. I'm just. my jaw is on the floor. supposedly duplicating assets helps load times on HDDs but. holy fuck at what cost

it's worse than that: The Helldivers devs were told that duplicating assets would help HDD load times, but then they actually tested it and it had basically zero effect on load times!

So they had more than sextupled the size of their game by following industry standard practice that actually did basically nothing!

imagine you had a friend who constantly made jokes at the expense of something you loved. they're never funny, but they seem to expect you to laugh even though the punchline is just, "this thing you love sucks ass". it's not even really a joke, there's nothing funny about it, you can tell that they genuinely actually believe it. but they insist it's just a joke!

no matter what the situation is, they're always bringing the social interaction to a screeching halt with these jokes. nobody ever wants to participate in this joke with them. nobody agrees with the premise. nobody ever knows what to say afterwards, it's just an awkward moment and a subject change. but they just keep doing it.

you have to stop with the self-deprecatory "humor", it's not fun for anyone including you.

Rick is really bad at writing a lot of things but the one that always cracks me up are the timelines. God, that man really doesn't know how to count.

My favorite is Sally spending a whole summer with Poseidon (June-August) and then giving birth to Percy on August 18th lmao

Sally was either pregnant for 2 months (if she got pregnant in June) or 12 months (if she got pregnant in August). The only possible way she could be pregnant for 9 months and still give birth to Percy in August, is that she got pregnant in November... But Rick said they were together for only THAT summer and then Poseidon immediately left her.

#it's because poseidon pulled a seahorse and gave birth to percy.
