Omg this was literally my thoughts every time I had a level 1 trauma. Itās like Iād hear the word āintubate,ā and suddenly start second guessing myself on how to multiply with decimals.
Or every time a peds case came into the ED. Calculating and re-calculating that lidocaine infiltration dose. Never trusting the results. AAAAAAA

So vet school finally caught up to me. A bunch of super nasty things happened this year with my family that made it really hard to focus and get stuff done at the beginning of this year/Christmas time. I dragged my butt through mid-year exams and took a well deserved break. Things kinda sorta got better so I stayed on top of work for a while but yet again the same thing happened back at home and I fell behind to the point where it would be the night before and exam and I still had no idea what was happening. Iām working my ass off - attending all my classes and studying 4-5 hours after school. Iāve managed to pull through for a while and crammed the night before or morning off and get okay marks, but I know Iām not retaining anything and still missing so much like clinical skills and anatomy. Tomorrowās test will be the worst yet. Itās in 8 hours and I still donāt know anything. I stayed up all last night trying to finish summary notes but I didnāt retain anything. Itās 30% of my mark and Iāll be shocked if I donāt fail. Kicker is , Iām pretty sure if I fail this course there is no resit exam or anything .... so I would have to do first year again even though my marks in all other courses are still good.
All in all I feel like it was a joke to let me in. I canāt keep up, Iām studying like crazy on top of 9 hour days sometimes, but Iām still behind and nothing I seem to do changes that. Iām exhausted, loosing friends, never seeing my partner or family and letting self care go out the window (I canāt even find time to cook or clean). I feel like I will never be a good vet since I canāt even hold on to any information they give me and I feel like the most important parts of this job are being pushed to the side so that I can get through the smaller stuff. I donāt know how my classmates do it - I just feel so overwhelmed.

wht classes did u know were right to take?I know there is required classes for each vet skool, but how do I stand out with those classes?for example, we have an algebra based physics and a calculusbased physics. My prevet friends think that taking the calculusbased physics will look better for vet school and taking more high based bio classes will help them too.I knw good idea, but if i were to go that route, idk if i will pull off a A or does that not matter cuz atleast vet skool sees im trying
I can only answer this from the perspective of my school. Here we are only judged on the grades that fill the prereqs and our last year of school before we apply. For us, this means it is way more important to take courses we will get good grades in than trying to fill ourĀ application with hard classes we have bad grades in. Frankly, at my school, they donāt care how hard the class was as long as it fills the requirement for the pre-req. Good luck!Ā

Im a sophomore in college, and i am taking 15 credits (chem 1,trig, anthropology,and stats). Im considering dropping trig, because i want to lower my course load to 12 credits.I work part time as well, so getting a good grade is important for me. I hear that taking 15-18 credit is good bc then ill be ready for vet school course load, but im not sure if i will get As and not be streesed out. I dont know vet school will like to see? Will they understand i work and a fultime student with 12 credits
Hey! I think this really depends on where you are applying to school but I will do my best to answer. Here at my school we do things a bit differently. We are required to apply with 2.5 credit semesters, with one class being 0.5 credits. We are not allowed to apply with grades from lower credit semesters unless we were approved for a compassionate or medical reason. That being said if the school you are applying to doesnāt have a minimum requirement for credits taken then I would drop the course. It is more important to have quality grades than push yourself because you think you will be more used to a vet school course load, its more important to make sure you have the grades to get in. Honestly, I donāt think any amount of credits in undergrad can prepare you for the amount of work in vet school anyways. Best of luck!Ā
