SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! I am still in this fandom to a certain point, but twice-weekly posts (and finding the information save the ones you lovely people send me) is beginning to take its toll on the gazillion other things that are lining up. I am considering ‘abdicating’ the newsletter if I can find someone who is willing to pick it up and run it. If you do, please contact me through [email protected]. There’s a gmail to take over, a twitter, a tumblr and even an instagram I never got around to using. As well as a pillowfort account and a trello. I will still be around to assist if needed and I WILL vet applications. If you’ve ever started shit in this fandom, I’ll probably know and the answer will be NO. I have too much respect for the users of this newsletter to just go for the first and best offer.

What’s new this week? A new discord server :D - but nothing else just yet (we have some things coming up later in the year that you can already take a look at now). But if you know of an event going on or coming up, feel free to let me know :)

A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.

“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.

A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.

Writer:

Published short fiction stories for anthology collection

Able to write short fiction within a designated word count for layout purposes (900-1500 words, 1500-2000, 3000-5000)

Wrote short articles for independent publication

Assisted with editing short stories for publication

Able to reduce or expand written content based on layout needs

Produced a digital PDF and printed version of anthology, mailing to recipients all over the world

Communicated with printers and manufacturers of plastic accessories and paper goods, assembling professional packages of our merchandise for mailing.

Built a custom digital storefront and navigated professional market and payment systems including Paypal and Tictail / Bigcartel / Wix etc

Created promotional events to boost sales, including raffles and giveaways over social media

Organized participants through mass emails and use of social media posts on tumblr and twitter

Created private Discord chat channels to keep participants up to date on production

For this event, the total number of teams posting is 120!! Definitely not a mini-bang this time around xD

The following information is included in the app, but we are providing it here for you as well.

You must be 18 or older on Feb 1st, 2021 in order to participate. There will be no exceptions.

The theme for this zine is angst. This can take many forms. We love a good bit of hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending, and a little happily-ever-aftercare, because these are great, but unresolved scenarios, sorrow, and darker endings are welcome and encouraged as well. Proposals will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and, like the rest of the content, will require appropriate tagging for the reader’s comfort.

*In the end I actually reconstructed his workflow after painting everything in because we don’t work the same way. What a perverse thing to do...*

Small Omens - Resolutions

Tentative schedule: (Subject to change, but all changes will be announced.)

Applications: January 8th through 23rd, though may close sooner depending on turnout.

Result emails by Feb 1st, and an announcement to be made after.

Creation period begins the day after results go out.

All applicants must be 18 or older to contribute to this zine.

As this zine is dealing with some of the heavier topics, some of the Major Archive Warnings will be allowed per mod approval. Please note that if you would like to be a contributor, we will have 3 levels within the zine, including one that is completely SFW. Those who do not wish to see the levels with heavier content above their own level won’t be required to, as each level will have a specific role for access. We respect your right to curate your own experience, and do not require contributors to view content they are uncomfortable with in order to participate.

The current plan is for the SFW content to be included both in the main zine as well as in a separate zine of its own to allow for more people to comfortably enjoy the angst.

Though the zine itself is digital, we are looking into a few optional merch options, and will have more info on that in the near future. The application will have a section regarding this as well.
