Protestors amass at the Minnesota state Capitol on 14 June 2025 for one of many planned No Kings protests in Minnesota (which were also happening across the country that day), though many were cancelled and this one quickly became a protest against right-wing violence and on behalf of state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, who were assassinated by a gunman targeting Democrats-Farm-Labor lawmakers, earlier in the day. Last week, the murderer pleaded guilty to murdering them.

Remembering Margaret Bourke-White, trailblazing photographer and photojournalist, born 14 June 1904 in New York. Across her career, she went so many places and took risks to capture major events during the 1930s-1950s that many men of the time would not have dared to take, including flying with the relatively new US air forces, photographing life in the poor, rural south during the Depression and the Soviet Union in the 1930s. She was followed by the FBI for decades, assumed to be some kind of communist because of where she traveled and what she photographed and red-baited in the right-leaning press—the red-baiters and right-wing paranoiacs of her day were as stupid and clueless about the left as they are today. She died in 1971.
