In 2022, homeowners near Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis, decided not to chop down the storm-damaged tree in their yard, and instead had it sculpted into a 20-foot-tall pencil. They unveiled it with a sharpening ceremony on the first Saturday in June. It was so much fun, they decided to repeat it the next year, and then the year after that. Each year, more people came, the costumes got more elaborate, and there was ever more entertainment.

This year, there was a band, the crowd was more than a thousand, and the tip was successfully sharpened once again.
