I dont have any opinion on this book since I didnāt read it.
But I have seen a bunch of people thirsting over this guy more than any other LI in this book. And it got me thinking about this annoying trend of fandomās favourite becoming bookās favourite, like with AN3 and Im sure many more. Itās just annoying when in the game where you supposed to choose your romance, with supposedly equal treatment between characters, the author picks a favourite in their novel. Like I get that the big number of fans will applaud you for feeding them their favourite, but the rest will side-eye you in your future works. Why even bother making other LI you clearly donāt care about?
Iām not saying this is happening with Waterlily, I just fear that it might. This applies to all of the books btw.

I wanted to do more stuff with Flint and the gang for Pride Month, but havenāt calculated how damn tired I would be after the graduation. But at least I finished this(yes, this is a physical painting, 40x50cm, acrylic paint).
Flint being intersex is not something I try to focus on, but seeing how people treat them before and after the āoutingā, is just getting on my nerves. I guess the reveal didnāt change much, people before were obsessed with their genitalia and after they still discuss the pants deal and try to figure out āwhat they areā, push into boxes. I can relate to this as a non-binary person, but being intersex, I canāt even imagine what itās like. I can only guess, based on peopleās reaction, that itās even more annoying to live as an intersex in a strictly binary society. People so focused on genitalia, completely dismissing the person themself. Wanted to express my feelings in relate to this topic, since Im very much obsessed with the character. And doing this during Pride Month just feels right yk. š³ļøāšš³ļøāā§ļø

Idk if I will sound like a CB boot licker, but whatever, I just see it being critiqued for the dumbest stuff sometimes.
If you find CB boring, thatās fine, you have 50+ books full of unrealistic events, LI, behaviours etc, why RC canāt have one book where stuff are more close to real world, I genuinely donāt understandš.
You can say that the setting is not your cup of tea, but disappointed ? lmao. As far as I know the book didnāt set any expectations, Idk why some people get really upset when itās not what they want and say āwell it should have been this insteadā like?š go watch your Greyās Anatomy, it got like billion seasons.(I watched it back in 2018, trust me, I was really fixated on the show myself and I wouldnāt bring up a piece of media to bring another one down. The show is full of unrealistic medical drama and is a romantic hot mess, I donāt even know how this would be implemented in RC lol). Also, Idk how I feel about calling somebody who is in a relationship and is open for a poly relationship a āpackageā. Iāve seen this a lot surrounding Eugene and Dakota, and itās rubbing me the wrong way.
Unrelated to the Reddit comment, but Iāve seen multiple times people defend their hatred for Flint with āWell, the book setting is more realistic, so I hate an asshole-ish character more than in fantasy booksā, and Iām just like????? What is that supposed to fucking mean, I like genuinely ask, Iāve seen it so many times and I just donāt understand. Fantasy or not, all human interactions are coming from our real world, and are directly inspired, willingly or not. Even if they seem absurd sometimes. Like, do you give some pity points to an asshole-ish character because he got demon wings or something?š Like of course certain settings adds layers to the character, but that can happen in real world too likešš
Also I like how many people under āunpopular opinionsā post talk about how they despise Flint, like, do you really think itās an unpopular opinionš? It still blows my mind how much hate they get for calling Jules stupid once, putting a few unwanted pranks and overall being mean at worse. Like I deadass saw people (not under that post) saying how they want to beat them up???like???idk what to say anymore, we are cooked.
Unpopular opinions are fine, disliking something or someone is fine, I comment only on the stupid/weird reasons for said hatred, overblown hatred, weird projections on the story or character and disrespect on the work or itās author. Maybe I will blow somebodyās mind, but you can state your negative opinion on the book and the characters without sounding like an asshole. Itās just blows my mind, I spend maybe even more than an hour to write and polish my text to not sound disruptive and try to respectfully state my point, but some people donāt even fucking try.
All of this is not directed to that person on the attachment, itās just a rant about some stuff that have been piling up, some small comments like this are just triggers.
