how to be alone: a letter to the down-trodden, heart-broken, and hopeless
first, try to find the difference between aloneness and loneliness for they are two very different things. remember that you don't need to be with someone. you want to be with someone but you do not need to be with someone. you don't need anyone. the only way you can learn to live and love and exist with anyone is if you can successfully do those things with yourself. anyone who believes otherwise is under the impression that they alone are not enough for the world. we are full and complete on our own and to further the point you should want to be able to be on your own. there is something that you must face on your own that is keeping you from being alone. I do not know what it is, but there is something you think being in a relationship will remedy but it will not. it isn't simply a matter of finding the right person. you do not need the "right" person. what you need is to take the word "need" out of your vocabulary. you must find the difference between your wants and your needs, because they are vastly different. it will be hard but know it is hard for all of us. the days that lie ahead will be filled with confusion and pain and loneliness but know that they are fleeting. it will seem long and arduous but those feelings will dissipate soon enough. it is okay to have those feelings. they are real and no one can take them away from you. but by the angel, do not wallow. turn them into something. make your feelings productive. create, write, draw, this is living. finding productivity in the best and the worst of life. and when you do you'll feel amazing because it's being held on paper or canvas or film rather than in your skin where it festers and grows, crawling inside you, until it is all consuming. and it is okay if the good feelings fade and they reappear. nothing can truly stay the same. find the courage to be okay with being alone. grow a pair because no one will hand them to you on a silver platter, garnished with confidence. being okay with being alone often is not synonymous with being a recluse. you'll never truly be alone forever. there is no way to disprove this. there is no one carving your fate into a headstone somewhere in the universe. you can not force anything into existence. you have to accept your place on this road. where you are right now is exactly where you are supposed to be. if you were meant to be anywhere else, you'd be there. do not mistake acceptance of this fact for apathy. it does not mean sit on your sofa and eat cakes until your manic Pixie dream girl shows up on your doorstep with a comic book in one hand and a marriage proposal in the other. acceptance just means to keep on keeping on as they say, and try your hardest not to force the universe into your idyllic plan.
