FEBRUARY’S VERBALDOSE
OH! S/HE LOVES ME (NOT) - 160214 - PROMPT 9
Flushed cheeks, melting hearts, the sickeningly sweet smell of chocolate in the air, and the oh so obvious sight of pinks and reds being worn more than usual; Valentine’s Day is here! The day to celebrate being with your loved one, to celebrate romance, for the girl to confess to who she hopes will be her significant other with sweet chocolates. What a wonderful day, right? Well, maybe not to other people. Your muse, to be specific. Are they more bitter or sweet when it comes to this romantic month. Do they even want an ounce of romance touching them? Or do they find this holiday to be totally revolting? Or better yet, rather than have someone they want to be with, is there someone they want to part ways with? With this, we bring you February’s Verbaldose! Remember that these prompts do not have a word count and are not required but are highly recommended. It is up to you to do these. To write, to improve, and to develop your muse. These prompts are the stepping stones in all of our literary journeys. Be resolute, be valiant, be fearless. And, as always, happy writing! NOTE: THIS IS A SINGLE DOSE PROMPT (meaning there is only one, but it’s a big one)
QUESTIONS
Be honest here, what does your muse like most about February 14th: the obvious signs of affection all around or the abundance of sweets?
Is your muse typically single or typically taken when this holiday rolls around? They can be in-between too...we don’t judge!
Describe your muses views on romance. Feelings, affection, etc etc; would they consider themselves to be the “romantic type”?
Following the question above, how does your muse show affection? Physically? Verbally? Subtly? Or in no ways whatsoever?
FOR THE FEMALE (AND POSSIBLY MALE) MUSES: is there anyone your muse is planning on giving chocolate to? FOR THE MALE MUSES: is there anyone your muse hopes to receive chocolate from?
What is the most ridiculous or the sweetest event your muse has either done or witnessed on Valentine’s Day?
DRABBLE PROMPT
ATTENTION! Although we allow our members to write in any form they wish to for these prompts, we do have certain instructions this time around. We would prefer these prompts to be written in the first-person point of view. Meaning, “I” will be used as your muse will refer to his or herself (ex. ‘I gave him a chocolate’ or ‘She looked at me like I was insane’). Please specify when these prompts are written (from your muse’ childhood, present day, etc). PROMPT 1: Your muse confessing to someone. PROMPT 2: Your muse rejecting/breaking up with someone.
WRITING TIP
Your reader will only know as much as you tell them, so do not leave out what you want them to know. You can imply as many things as you want to but sometimes, too many hints and context clues can make your writing too vague and hard to follow.
