Triggers: Pregnancy
Verity "Vera" Rhodes and her twin sister were born into a world of large estates, prestigious boarding schools, and an unwavering sense of security. They were highly educated in private schools and brought every single degree they had. Vera traveled the world, and was constantly surrounded by luxury thanks to her parents, who are both from wealthy backgrounds. Despite growing up in this kind of environment, Vera grew up with a strong sense of duty and a love of the arts, which was brought forth by her mother's admiration for modern sculpture and classical paintings.
Vera had never really been out of the sheltered lifestyle, so when she left home she became far too trusting in strangers, finding herself one night, being taken advantage of. She found herself waiting for him to call her back, she thought it was love he said a lot of pretty words but none of them stuck. Two months later, staring at a positive pregnancy test she had no way of getting in contact with him. Instead of dragging her family through the controversy of having to deal with her pregnancy, she put together her things and moved to a new place to start fresh. Her parents followed her all the way to New York, and a few months later she gave birth to twin girls, Macey and Lily.
As time passed, Vera took a good look inward at herself and she realized that while societal expectations were being put on her as a mother, she also didn’t fully identify with being a traditional woman. After putting in some research she settled on a term that she enjoyed identifying as more than being a woman, demi girl seemed to fit her much better and she enjoyed embracing that role. However after a few dates with men she discovered something else, she didn’t want to date men, she found women far more interesting and attractive, and again she fully embraced the change in her identity.
Now that she’s thirty Vera is enjoying the lifestyle she has, she purchased The Modern Muse a few years ago. It wasn’t only an investment but a passion project, wanting to showcase new and upcoming artists and those underrepresented and underappreciated in the art world. There is plenty of space in the gallery for everyone, but she tries to put a highlight on anyone upcoming. She has several degrees and gave them up to take on the art gallery, and she wouldn’t look back for a second. The Modern Muse has been a way to give her daughters something meaningful and to show her own personal strength.
Now that her girls are ten Vera continues to juggle motherhood, her identity, and her business with a delicate grace. Continually supported by her parents and her twin sister Vera is absolutely thriving in this life and stability she has built for herself and her daughters.

Imani was running late, which was hardly uncommon. Bustling through the door she paused as she tried to snap her heelies shut without using her hands. "Babe!" She said happily as she happily bounced over to her friend. "Girl let me tell you... I have never had so many people stop and stare at their phones directly in my path." She set her neon green purse down, letting the many keychains clatter against the table. "What did you get?" She said looking at her friends coffee as she adjusted the rainbow fur coat covering the simple bikini top she was wearing. Was she cold? Yes. But fashion was more important.
At least when it came to Imani Vera knew what to expect, she was always doing her own thing and beating her own drum, which is why she was never too worried when Imani was late. “Of course they do, I notice the same thing in the gallery, they come to visit and then spend the whole time sitting on a bench staring at their phones like zombies.” She held up her latte with a grin. “Valentines drink, it’s a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake latte, I’m being absolutely bombarded by sugar and I wouldn’t change it for a second.” She paused, laughing lightly. “I think you might need a warm drink, one day I’m going to run across an Imani popsicle I swear.” { @imani--linh }
he left his place a lot earlier than he anticipated, yet, he genuinely couldn’t be bothered to take the subway today, so driving it was. maxxie didn’t enjoy driving in new york – he was already a shit driver and the traffic was horrible, which explains why he didn’t get there on time. when he does arrive at the cafe, his light eyes scan the room in search for her, but her voice causes the blonde to quickly locate her. “ hey! sorry, the traffic was absolutely horrendous. ” that wasn’t a lie, it was always horrible. “ i bought little cake pops i made. look, they’ve got animal faces on them! ” he loved to bake, and recently, he’s gotten into the habit of making cake pops. he pulls out a little lace box from the bag he had, opening it up to reveal five exactly. “ we’ve got vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, cake batter and cookies and cream, have as many as you’d like. ” he states, shooting her his usual soft boy grin. each one had different animals too – a dog, a cat, a raccoon, a panda and a sloth. “ sooo… what did you want to tell me? i’m all ears. ” he was all nosy too, but that was a different story.
Vera continued sipping away at her coffee, it had been a minute and she was very quickly running out of coffee. “Honestly doesn’t surprise me, when is New York traffic not shit?” She asked, it was always shit, didn’t matter when. She looked up into the cake pop box, they were adorable and she couldn’t decide which one she wanted, she almost felt bad for biting into one of the animals. “Ohhh I can’t pick, how about I close my eyes and you surprise me?” She said, holding a hand out and closing her eyes. “Although I will say you’d better let me take one home for the girls, I already know Macey will want the raccoon and Lily will want the cat so one of the other three?” She suggested. “But I’m not here with some big news, the girls are fighting and I just need a moment of sanity in the sheer amount of insanity right now.” { @deeplywonderstruck }
Stella was always so giddy when she was shopping, felt like her money was burning a hole in her pocket. She looked around, "Look at the endless opportunities! I know it's not an art gallery, but there's so much art and life here!" She gave a big spin before settling on a booth next to them that had prints for sale. She pulled one out, an artistic piece that really had no rhyme or reason to it. She cocked her head to the side and looked at it before turning it to Vera, "What do you think? Is it good or is it fully just bathroom art?" She didn't care who heard her, it was harsh but that's who she was.
Vera loved coming to the flea market, there was just something about being among all the different stalls, smelling the different foods. She really felt like she could be herself among the crowds. "Of course! It's always nice to get back out among people and seeing what they have for sale, sometimes you find something that you've just been dying to find and it's been here the whole time." Vera was busy staring down a piece that she thought was absolutely adorable, she stepped over, snatching it up, a lovely painted shelf with sunlight reflecting off it painted on a large canvas. "Oh that's gorgeous, what do you think of this one?" { @stella--ashford }
"Meeting ran over," Ben declared as he loudly threw himself into the chair opposite her, sending the legs scraping across the ground. He'd assumed that Vera wouldn't mind and he wasn't about to ruin any chances he had to try and get his career back either. Not that he'd had much luck today. "You good?" he queried after shrugging off his jacket.
"Ah it's fine I was late getting here too, had to get coffee in me after my morning." She said, taking another long swig of her coffee, it was nice to have that after the girls were fighting all morning. Vera didn't even know who started the fight, but she sure did finish it after they had to sit on opposite corners of the room. "The girls have been fighting again, about ready to throw in the towel but I know that's definitely not a good idea." { @oftatteredwings }

Axel hated people touching any of his cars, but especially this one. Watching the young group scatter he shook his head. "Well... thanks for trying at least." He said with a slight smile. Watching as she leaned on what he assumed was her car he gestured to her. "Can I get you a coffee or something as a thank you?" He tilted his head towards the coffee shop.
Vera had her fair share of people not respecting her stuff, she owned the art gallery, she hated to assume, but often it was the younger crowd that caused the problems. "Always gotta try, even if it doesn't get through to them." She nodded, stepping away from her car. "Please, I just got here and it's high time I have some caffeine." { @axel--mathis }
"sorry, sorry," jo breathed as she practically thew herself into the seat across from vera and shrugged out of her jacket. "jake missed the bus so i had to walk him. and then bagel peed in my shoes so i had to walk him real quick before heading over." she breathed out a long sigh and glanced wistfully at the coffee vera was holding and then over to the ever-growing line at the counter. "how's your day been?"
"Oh my God, Jo I've only been here five minutes, barely any time to be honest with you. I'm just a little paranoid polar bear about thinking someone's ditched me when they don't show up right on time." She shook her head, drinking down some more of her coffee. "And I have girls! I know what it's like to be late for everything." She laughed softly. "Well, Macey has found her love for gaming and she wants a race car, and Lily has discovered makeup and wants to be a beauty guru so it's a very mixed bag. How's Jake apart from missing the bus?"
"Sorry, I know I'm late," Ayla let out a sigh as she sat down opposite the blonde, placing her valentines themed coffee on the table between them. "Lara was fussing. I know I should've brought her, but Zak insists I get out of the house by myself, so here I am."
"Not by much at all, fussy babies always need their parents, trust me, my twins are polar opposites in every possible way." She said with a soft laugh, that was something she herself needed to work on. "Have you gotten to the babble stage yet or are you still on crying? I know usually it's around 5 months they really get their vocal footing but sometimes they get a little chatty earlier on." { @ayladxmir }
"Sorry I'm late," Willa said as she rushed over, slipping out of her coat. "I don't have a good excuse, I slept through my alarm," she told her, taking a seat across from her. "Were you waiting long?"
"Don't worry about it, I'm not that worried, I've only been here for five minutes." Vera said, lettting out a soft laugh. "You know I just get a little paranoid when people are late, that's entirely on me." { @willa-holmes }
Vera had been sitting at the table at least five minutes now, and that might not have seemed like a long time, but she was starting to wonder if their friend was showing up. When someone approached she looked up from her cup of coffee. “Ah there you are!” she nodded. “Sit sit!”

Only Axel's assistant knew the true amount of coffee he drank. He relied on it. It was better than previous vices he had indulged in. Leaving the coffee shop, Axel approached his car, having had parked it in two spots on the street. He didn't want anyone scratching it, and the coffee shop wasn't so busy at this time of day that he felt guilty. There were still plenty of spaces. Getting his keys out of his pocket, he narrowed his eyes seeing someone leaning on the hood taking selfies with his car. "Hey! Mind getting your ass off my car?" He said as he approached.
Vera had already warned them that whoever owned the car wasn’t going to be happy, to which she had been completely snubbed, one even flipping her off, that was the point she decided to watch what happened. Apparently she’d arrived at just the right time to see the fallout, and she couldn’t help but lean against her own car with a smug smile on her face. “If it helps I did tell them to scram, apparently a middle finger is the perfect response to a reasonable request.”

location: valentine's day 5k finish line at park slope
Elliot certainly wasn't the most energetic of people, nor was he a fan of Valentine's Day, so signing up for the run was a little out of the ordinary. When he'd put his name down, though, he had been living a different life and he figured it wouldn't actually hurt for him to work towards something that wasn't to do with his job. And he'd succeeded... sort of. Approaching a table laid out with hundreds of bottles of water, he took a moment to try and catch his breath before reaching out to grab a couple, reaching back to hand one over to the person behind him. "I'm regretting that sprint to the finish line..."
Vera had only just heard of the event a few days ago, but she decided it was a great idea to go through with the run and pull in some attraction for the business and to give her girls something to watch their mother do and have fun with. So far she’d seen them two times, her babysitter moving them a couple times to make sure they were close to the edge to see their mother running (occasionally walking and jogging, she wasn’t quite that fit.). Finally she had made it to the end and she took the bottle of water offered to her, “thank you!” She said, out of breath, giving herself time to take a drink before continuing. “I need to get in some more exercise if I do that again.”
