her breathing stayed heavy and rapid, her hands over her chest as if that ever actually helped calm the beats of her heart down. it never worked, no matter how hard she tried. she let out a rack of sobs, trying her best to calm down, but it scared the hell out of her when she got such strong palpitations. mouse didn’t know who she’d called, but she honestly didn’t care at this point because she just wanted her heart to stop thumping so erratically so she could breathe and feel again. upon the request to drink, she sat up enough that she wouldn’t choke and took a few sips before it started making her mouth water in the way it did when she needed to throw up, but she wouldn’t let that happen because it was gross and painful. mouse’s head nodded at vera’s question, but she was still crying and breathing in such a way she felt she might hyperventilate. “i’m — i’m getting dizzy, i ca — i can’t breathe,” she whispered between sharp gasps.
She had done this countless times before, but even with this much familiarity, she still feared that slim chance that the love of her life could reach a flatline. Vera would never know what to do without Mouse, even when she disappeared, seeming to never see her face ever again. Remaining unfazed, the green-eyed brunette knew that she had to be strong for the both of them, no matter how much it broke her heart to see Mouse with so much struggle and sobs. “ It’s okay, Baby. It’s okay , “ Vera cooed in the softest voice she could emit, repeating the phrase like a mantra and taking one of Mouse’s hands to gently run her fingertips on her palm. “ Just focus on your breathing, and how gentle my fingers are tracing the lines on your hand , “ she instructed calmly, attempting for Mouse to be in touch with her senses. Immediately taking a tissue to wipe the remnants of water, Vera placed the bottle of water aside and gently wiped the tears on the other’s face. “ Yes, you can !! Just close your eyes and count to ten. Inhale slowly and exhale slowly. I’ll be right by your side this entire time , “ she was holding Mouse’s hand, kissing the back of it as she was cautiously watching her.
