i think its interesting how frequently he tolerates suffering, accepts risk of harm or death, and just straight-up opts out of continued existence, and im gonna look at When How and Why.

ok. well, to be eito is to suffer, in perpetuity. suffering is His Baseline. suffering governs his existence.
existing as eito means tolerating constant sensory assault. sight, sound, smell, touch, etc (here is a single citation, im sure you can find a million, You Know What This Guys Deal Is)
existing as eito means being a social creature that is fundamentally removed from connection with others, dependent on people & subject to systems that are innately hostile to you.
existing as eito means being, almost definitionally, Discomforted.
this seems pretty hard to suffer through! but, at least some of the time, he does. so whats the motivation?
the thing that justifies eitos suffering is -> purpose <-. his disorder has purpose. his mission has purpose. his struggle has purpose. even his failure has purpose.
he is not good at enduring suffering that is meaningless. knowing that his suffering - and therefore his existence - has no inherent purpose makes him freak out.
primarily, to begin with, hate is his purpose. his life-long companion, his only way of relating to people, the ~strongest emotion of them all~
hate that was rooted in his backstory, hate that taught him how to function, and hate that saved him from being otherwise miserable and broken forever.
he acknowledges that hate functions as purpose (and tries to get takumi to make it his purpose too, making takumi just like him for the purpose of righteous revenge), and to him, that purpose is essential to continue existing.
