The underworld was cold and dark, like the palm of a lover. Gods were selfish creatures, they did not care for the pain they left behind. They did not bleed when mortals did. When she died, Eren was left with a painful hole shaped like her, aching and bleeding with every day that passed. He had not descended to the depths of the earth because he believed the cruel creatures they called gods could be merciful.  He had descended because he couldn’t go on living without the softness in her voice.
