I remember the Twins calling up a long haired shortstop in May of 2012. The team already had a long haired infielder named Trevor Plouffe at the time and some of the best hair in baseball was in Minneapolis. That guys name is Brian Dozier, who wore a Twins uniform for seven seasons. Brian was built to be a shortstop at the Major League level. He spent his rookie year at short then found a new home at second base, where he spent the next six years. He had a breakout 2013 season with eighteen home runs and very quickly became the Twins lead-off man. He kept on raking and I was at the ballpark when he was named a replacement for the 2015 All-Star Game. 2016 was a terrible year on the field for the Twins, but Brian Dozier had a career year. He hit 42 home runs and 23 of them were in August and September. I will never forget how he hit homers in nearly every at-bat during that stretch. The crowd would cheer once his name was announced and there was a buzz surrounding his at-bat. I might not ever see a stretch of homers by just one player again. Brian started the 2017 American League Wild-Card Game with a homer and it had to feel so good for him because he was on so many bad Twins teams. The Twins traded him to the Dodgers in 2018 then he won a World Series ring with the Nationals in 2019. I have so many memories of Brian Dozier. First off, he’s an incredible guy then he’s a hell of a ball player at the plate or in the field. I wish you and Renee and your dog Pickle nothing, but the best in your retirement Brian! What a career! When I think of Southern Miss then I think of two people. Brett Favre and Brian Dozier.
