like did you know that trees lower the surface temperature by up to 19° and grass by up to 24°... access to green space is access to safety in a climate crisis and it is a massive site of inequality because poorer areas tend to have less green space and thus get hotter. urban trees are an equality issue as well as a climate issue. sorry it's not a magic bullet that solves everything but sometimes you need to pick an issue that helps a bit and focus on that. this might not be yours. it's likely going to be mine in the future when my health issues allow me to take it on. if we each pick a thing we can make a difference
hello! I'm sorry to bother you but Ive been searching for texts and references about self harm from an antipsych perspective and I wondered if you knew any. I have checked your book recs and resources, as well as self-harm-harm-reduction's and library-cards but I haven't found much. thanks anyway, no trouble if not!
Well I can't help you with that, since I as stated in my pinned post do not collect such resources.
Not all of these are explicitly antipsych, but may be of interest to you:

Also see this essay [link] [1] for a more antipsych perspective of self-harm.

Amazing, I gathered some resources for this anon as well and I'm pretty sure we have none in common! Can't believe I didn't see that the author of the antipsych FAQ I linked has written an article about self harm :) Excited to look into these, thank you for sharing!
Couple of tumblr posts to start things off. Caden's blog is a great place to find resources about a variety of antipsych topics
hello fellow grad student 🫡 do you know of any articles/books that talk about bodily autonomy/self harm/self mutilation ? i've read some int
hello, you mentioned a while ago that you disagreed with a lot of the premises in A History of Self-Harm in Britain: A Genealogy Of Cutting
This is a great starting point for learning about antipsych perspectives/frameworks/etc

"Cutting The Risk." Practical guide for self harm risk reduction. Some of the language and approach is more prescriptivist than I prefer ("don't do it this way because it increases your risk of [whatever]" instead of "if you do it this way your risk of [whatever] increases" which i really do feel is important) but theres a lot of good technical information, and it is generally nonjudgmental:
Nonjudgmental zine by and for people who have self harmed or currently self harm:
Some useful technical first aid advice, but some of it feels iffy- "one pill over the prescribed amount" does not generally, maybe almost ever, constitute an overdose & I don't think that's a useful thing to tell people. For non-substance-related first aid advice though, this seems a generally good overview:
And having said that, for some actual good substance related harm reduction advice and technical information, National Harm Reduction Coalition's "Getting Off Right" guide is an amazing resource, written by and for people who inject drugs:
This training guide outlines the process of developing and managing an Overdose Prevention and Education Program.
And NEXT distro's resource library is invaluable:
Harm reduction advice for eating disorders:
i have a handful of anonymous asks in my inbox right now asking about harm reduction as applied to eating disorders that their loved ones ar
This article looks potentially relevant/interesting but it's paywalled & all I could read was the abstract. If you have access through a school or something, though, it might be worth a read
I believe @doyoulovethewayzeylily has some posts about harm reduction in the context of self harm but ive already hit the max number of links I can add. Hope some of this is helpful!

It's like we all collectively forgot as a society that friendship and just connection in general takes effort. Even if you meet someone you immediately click with, it takes hanging out about 20 times (!) to become friends. And guess what, some of those 20 meetings might be awkward or unimpressive.
We all want to reap the benefits (having a friend circle, having a partner, getting married) without doing the work (going to events, interacting with people, learning to handle conflict maturely, dating). Myself included. If I could, I'd never leave the house or go on another mediocre date again... except, that's part of the process.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the cure to the loneliness epidemic is touching some grass and building tolerance for tedious in-person interactions.

the idea that a sex scene in fiction is fundamentally useless/simply for audience titillation UNLESS they’re fucking infodumping exposition while they bone or something is so funny and myopic to me. like, you really genuinely believe for real that there is NOTHING to be gained about your understanding of a story or characters simply from how they approach and engage in sex? really for real?
i'm not convinced that art only has something to offer us when we personally want to participate in the activities being depicted
I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal sense— it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
I humbly offer this contribution.
I think leftists need to refer to the United States as a slave (nation) state more often. It has one of the highest prison populations per capita of any nation, slavery is legal as punishment for a crime, and Black people are disproportionately imprisoned and given longer sentences. The prison industrial complex is modern-day slavery
sony cutting off physical discs while also implementing a system that doesnt allow you to actually own ur digital games due to that 30 day verification whatever not to mention outside of gaming for the past few years sony has stopped producing on physical formats which is insane because THEY developed nearly every format every company uses( dvd, bluray, cd, etc ) so they have the biggest hand on production leaving a vacuum now that theyve stopped plus being absolutely shady with their digital marketplaces most recent example w/ pulling studio canal conent & the funimation / crunchyroll merger still has missing anime never added back to the app the shut down of multiple studios + the end of destiny 2 despite wanting to focus on live service which is just code for focusing on gta6's online mode & nothing else like adding the years upon years upon years of extra added shady sony horsepiss not just playstation but sony as a whole the fuck am i expected to spend a SINGLE dime with them again
adding to the "you dont hate sony enough" they also announced today they are shutting down the ps3 & psvita digital marketplaces so fuck preservation of games for older consoles ig !!
One of the most common complaints about Star Trek I saw growing up was “why don’t they use the holodeck more? If you were living in that time period and you could just make anything you wanted anytime you wanted and live out fantasies forever, why aren’t more people addicted to the holodeck?”
And then generative ai was created.
And now I get it. I get why nobody on Star Trek spends all their free time in the holodeck. I get why all the crew are putting on stage plays, and holding music recitals, and building models, and playing poker. I get why everyone was so skeptical and mean to the Doctor on Voyager. I get why the ONE TIME we see someone obsessed with the holodeck it infringes on people’s likeness rights and permissions.
Because fundamentally at the end of the day we are human beings and we ENJOY working with our hands and making REAL human connections. A person who learns to play an instrument is always going to be viewed as an artist over someone who asks the computer to generate music for them.
Even as recent as Lower Decks they were making fun of the fact that the crew were putting on amateurish plays and holding music recitals. But after living with Ai for so long and seeing how detrimental it’s been to the world… I’d much rather watch my friends put on a stage play than “participate” in a holodeck movie.
What’s most amazing about this is that it was completely unintentional. I do not for one second think that the writers of the time in the 90’s were really thinking about the larger issues that generative ai and chatGTP would cause. How could they? Text to speech back then was still robotic as heck. More likely they wrote that stuff in because it was cheaper to film on sets the owned than try to build, film, or rent out different locations each week.
That’s the down to earth logistical real reason Data is reciting poems about his cat or Riker is in a play put on in ten forward. It’s just cheaper to do that than to build a whole new set or move production to a new location.
Yet at the end of the day, I think that unintentionally speaks to a very human need that ai is making more and more prevalent to us day in and day out.
And that’s the fact nobody wants to deal with generative SLOP.

Hello, my name is The biggest, fattest, yuckiest fly you have ever seen.
I NEED to sit on you and tickle you with my little legs. I NEED to be really loud and annoying. I NEED to sit on your body instead of literally anything else in your room. I NEED to put my yucky tongue on any food or drink you're having.
And I'm big and fat, and yucky too.

I WANT TO PROMOTE LOW BARRIER EDUCATION TO ADVANCE DECOLONIZATION AND RECONCILIATION!!!!!!!!!!! STEP IN2 MY GOOGLE DOC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here's a googoodrive folder containing learnings on Experiential Learning in Ecological Restoration annnddd Research Practice in Indigenous Contexts. each course folder contains a "![Course number] Notes" document as well as PDFs of all the text-based readings that the notes draw from :-)

On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."
As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.
As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.
May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.
hey bestie i think ur post might be charmed 'cause you aren't gonna fuckin believe what happened today

Hey, Bandcamp users. You have probably already heard, but Bandcamp was bought by a music licensing firm, and laid off half its staff "as a cost cutting measure."
I will be downloading everything I purchased from Bandcamp and keeping an eye on it.
In a significant shift of ownership, Bandcamp, the renowned digital music marketplace, has officially transitioned from its previous owner,
I say this as both an author and someone who has been in fandom for a long time (15+ years): I do not trust the AO3 'Claude AI detector' skin. In fact, I will never trust any future "proof of AI" tools. Why? Because it's impossible to 100% know if someone used AI in any capacity.
I am anti-genAI, especially in creative fandom spaces, but I'm even bigger against witch hunts and harassment. Because that's all what this "exposed authors" document list (and future lists) is going to do. It doesn't matter if there's a big disclaimer about NOT attacking the people listed. The internet will do what the internet does nowadays and backstab anyone they deem unworthy, especially toward ones that they've been given the greenlight to attack. The obsession and paranoia about wanting to make sure that every single fandom creation is not made with AI is, quite frankly, getting out of fucking hand. No, I don't want to read AI works. But I don't have enough time in the day or much less the ability to care about checking. If I suspect something is amiss, I'll just do the fandom of old: Don't Like, Don't Read. Don't Like? Don't Engage. Hit the back button.
No one owes anything to anyone. No photo proof. No video proof. No screenshots or anything else.
Lastly: Instead of calling out authors who might be using AI to help them create, why not encourage the use of non-AI resources? Writers Helping Writers. An old fashioned thesaurus. Word Hippo. And so much more that is out there, which some people may not even be aware about.
This “detector” has already been proven to show false positives. It’s crap. It’s fear mongering and witch hunt inciting.
There are people out there using grammarly to edit their work because English might not be their first language, or they don’t know enough people to find a beta, or they’re dyslexic, or god knows how many other reasons.
There are people out there who are on the spectrum and their written work reads like ChatGPT because that’s how their brain works. There are people out there who are so goddamn skilled at what they do, others struggle to believe it’s real.
Do you know who else was like that? Michelangelo. Do you know *how many people* have stood in front of the statue of David and thought *how the fuck did any human create that?*
There are soo many telented people out there who are infinitely better than you, be it written word or drawn image, or hell, even a photoshopped picture. Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do.
Stop adding to the witch hunts. Stop trying to cancel people loudly.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it.
It costs nothing to be kind.
AI is imitating the patterns in human-made writing
It's impossible to detect whether text was created by AI because the patterns AI writing follows come from human writers
Like, that's literally what an LLM is and does, it imitates the patterns that humans use when they construct language
but the site skin isn't looking for patterns of writing, it's looking for the specific code in the html of the text that you would ONLY get if you had pasted it directly from claude into ao3's rich text editor. all it does is look at the html on a page and turn the page red if it sees the string of code that you would literally ONLY get if you pasted from claude into the editor. it's not analysing the text it's analysing the code. idk how much clearer i can make this.
