Non-spicy ways to show Intimacy
Intimacy isn't always just the spicy stuff! Here's a few ways to show it through your characters in a few, simple ways...
Kissing their S/O's hand, knuckles, wrist...bonus points for eye contact!
Speaking of which...eyes. Glances across the room, prolonged eye contact, staring at each other
Tending to the other's wounds/ injuries
Knowing the other's tiny habits
Reaching out to the other when in pain, trouble, ect
Whispering jokes to each other
Carefully wiping off a stain from their clothes or face
Taking care of each other when sick or hurt
Hand over the heart/ ear over the heart just to hear it beat
Pressing their thumb over the pulse point for the same thing
Tracing scars, tattoos, birth marks, freckles
Giving the other something tiny that means a lot, a picture, a shiny rock, a flower
In fantasy settings, helping the other put on/ take off armor...trusting the other to know where daggers, knives, poisons are hidden
Telling each other secrets/ thoughts they've told nobody before
Tucking back the other's hair
Putting a piece of jewelry on the other or letting them borrow clothes
Keeping each other warm in the cold
In cases with chronic illness, letting the other care for/ know symptoms
Brushing, braiding hair, applying skincare, etc.
Nightmare comfort
Wiping away tears
Proximity- sitting near each other, sticking close, standing beside each other while doing a task such as cooking, laundry, painting...
Sharing a book, sitting close enough to read it together

5 Tiny Writing Tips That Arenāt Talked About Enough (but work for me)
These are some lowkey underrated tips Iāve seen floating around writing communities ā the kind that donāt get flashy attention but seriously changed how I write.
1. Put āhe/she/theyā at the start of the sentence less often.
Try switching up your sentence rhythm. Instead of
āShe walked to the window,ā
try
āThe window creaked open under her touch.ā
Keeps it fresh and stops the paragraph from sounding like a checklist.
2. Donāt describe everything ā describe what matters.
Instead of listing every detail in a room, pick 2ā3 objects that say something.
āA half-drunk mug of tea and a knife on the tableā
sets a way stronger tone than
āThere was a wooden table, two chairs, and a shelf.ā
3. Use beats instead of dialogue tags sometimes.
Instead of:
"I'm fine," she said.
Try:
"I'm fine." She wiped her hands on her skirt.
It helps shows emotion, and movement.
4. Write your first draft like no one will ever read it.
No pressure. No perfection. Just vibes. The point of draft one is to exist. Let it be messy and weird ā future you will thank you for at least something to edit.
5. When stuck, ask: āWhatās the most fun thing that could happen next?ā
Not logical. Not realistic. FUN. It doesnāt have to stay ā but chasing excitement can blast through writerās block and give you ideas you actually want to write.
Whatās a tip that unexpectedly helped with your writing? Let me know!! š
Body Language
When someone is...
Sad
Face/Body:
Avoidant/reduced eye contact
Drooping eyelids
Downcast eyes
Frowning
Raised inner ends of eyebrows
Dropped or furrowed eyebrows
Quivering lip/biting lip
Wrinkled nose
Voice:
Soft pitch
Low lone
Pauses/hesitant speech
Quiet/breathy
Slow speech
Voice cracks/breaking voice
Gestures/Posture:
Slouching/lowered head
Rigid/tense posture
Half formed/slow movement
Fidgeting or clasped hands
Sniffing or heavy swallows
Self soothing gestures (running hands over the arms, hand over heart, holding face in palms, etc)

100 Dialogue Tags You Can Use Instead of āSaidā
For the writers struggling to rid themselves of the classic āsaidā. Some are repeated in different categories since they fit multiple ones (but those are counted once so it adds up to 100 new words).Ā
1. Neutral TagsĀ
Straightforward and unobtrusive dialogue tags:Ā
Added, Replied, Stated, Remarked, Responded, Observed, Acknowledged, Commented, Noted, Voiced, Expressed, Shared, Answered, Mentioned, Declared.
2. Questioning TagsĀ
Curious, interrogative dialogue tags:
Asked, Queried, Wondered, Probed, Inquired, Requested, Pondered, Demanded, Challenged, Interjected, Investigated, Countered, Snapped, Pleaded, Insisted.
3. Emotive TagsĀ
Emotional dialogue tags:
Exclaimed, Shouted, Sobbed, Whispered, Cried, Hissed, Gasped, Laughed, Screamed, Stammered, Wailed, Murmured, Snarled, Choked, Barked.
4. Descriptive TagsĀ
Insightful, tonal dialogue tags:Ā
Muttered, Mumbled, Yelled, Uttered, Roared, Bellowed, Drawled, Spoke, Shrieked, Boomed, Snapped, Groaned, Rasped, Purred, Croaked.
5. Action-Oriented TagsĀ

7. Agreement TagsĀ

8. Disagreement TagsĀ
Resistant, defiant dialogue tags:Ā

9. Confused TagsĀ
Hesitant, uncertain dialogue tags:
Stammered, Hesitated, Fumbled, Babbled, Mumbled, Faltered, Stumbled, Wondered, Pondered, Stuttered, Blurted, Doubted, Confessed, Vacillated.
10. Surprise Tags
Shock-inducing dialogue tags:
Gasped, Stunned, Exclaimed, Blurted, Wondered, Staggered, Marvelled, Breathed, Recoiled, Jumped, Yelped, Shrieked, Stammered.
Note: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No I am NOT telling people to abandon said and use these. Yes I understand that said is often good enough, but sometimes you WANT to draw attention to how the character is speaking. If you think adding an action/movement to your dialogue is 'good enough' hate to break it to you but that ruins immersion much more than a casual 'mumbled'. And for the last time: this is just a resource list, CALM DOWN. Hope that covers all the annoyingly redundant replies :)

Yall actually draft your stories and make notes and research prior to writing?? I just eyeball it and go into a 30 minute research spree in the middle of writing bc I can't find the answer to my very specific thing and then fix the same phrase 20 times bc it doesn't sound right
