When my late wife was in the ICU at the hospital I had gone to the parking lot for a smoke. A homeless woman approached me and bummed a smoke. She then told me her son was in the ICU with serious heart issues. She also said she hadn't had anything more than sweet roll to eat in 2 days. Her clothes were dirty and she wanted a bath. I gave her all I had in my pocket at the time, maybe $45 or $50. It crossed my mind that she may be just taking the money to buy drugs. I gave her the money anyway on the off chance she wasn't lying. I'd rather be taken advantage of 10 times, hoping that maybe I made a difference in one person's life. As it turns out I saw her later in the ICU with clean clothes she had gotten at DG and had enough left over to get a meal in the cafeteria. Let your conscience be your guide.
