But none had been so violent in the way they cared. For all his small crimes against her, every trespass was laced with good intentions. No matter how much she wanted to fault him, Grey had given her the one thing she never truly understood; unconditional love.

She knows how to wound before the thought leaves her fingertips, worded as precisely as her aim. He can bob and weave all he likes, there is no counter to her fire. Each careful word built to cause him unbearable pain; because despite how naturally lying cane to her, Alex knew the real damage the truth could do.

Her hands fell still for a moment, before reaching up for his cheeks with a gentle touch into reserved for things that could wound. Holding him, breathing with him, it was all a matter of waiting for the next storm brewing beneath the surface.
