           SURPRISE COLORS HIS FEATURES   as he sees her, and he must say, she is a sight for sore eyes.  not because she’s beautiful   -     which she is, of course, incredibly so, but because a week is too much time away from her. that sounds like a cliché, he knows, but little of him cares   :   he has never felt like this about any other girl before, not even in three years with jessica. it’s  ----  she’s a breath of fresh air.  adam smiles, taking the coffee cup with a puzzled look on his face before leaning in to kiss her on the lips quickly.  ❛   i thought your tour only ended in two weeks!  not that i’m complaining.   ❜   

         “that’s a bit crass.” he replied dryly, his hand now holding his head as he looked at his friend. this wasn’t just about the magazine, was it? he wanted to ask her, the question on the tip of his tongue. but confrontation was never his forte. humming, he picked up his pencil and began on the next equation. he knew that there was little to change her mind, and he could see when he had lost the argument. but then again, had he ever even won an argument against her? sighing, he finally shook his head and looked back up at her. “ so why did you agree to be his girlfriend? you knew that this was part of his life. did you expect him to be able to cut it out easily? why not make it simple? isn’t that what relationships are? sacrifice? even doing things that we normally wouldn’t do?” his voice was low before chewing on the side of his cheek.he shouldn’t have said anything. she was going to get mad. closing his eyes, he leaned his head back and let out a sigh. “everyone will meddle. whether they be the public or our families. it doesn’t mean we have to care or listen. but if you want to change the subject, did you know that audrey set me up with her cheerleading friend, jessica? yes. that jessica” 

       ❛    I HAD NEVER SEEN HER   quite as  ----  how does she say it? crossed, though that was after the confusion wore down. i’ll never forget how her eyebrows furrowed and her mouth opened and closed. who among us mere mortals can say we’ve made scarlett lefurgey speechless? god, i wish i could have recorded it. it was a sight to remember.   ❜    he smiles fondly at the memories, tilting his head slightly as he hears melody talk. it seemed almost fitting, that that would be her name  :   she speaks in the most of melodical manners, and with every word that leaves her lips he finds himself wanting to hear more. he’d listen to her forever, and beyond, too.   ❛   she must really like you, you know. i don’t think she would ever have willingly told me about it, had i not found out   -----  scarlett has a good eye for people.   ❜   he absolutely hates himself right after the words leave his mouth, cringing ever so lightly  :   will she think he is flattering himself, by saying she has a good eye? he meant melody, not himself  ------  hopefully she knows that.   ❛   she’s lucky to have a friend like you, you know. especially after everything that happened.   ❜    maybe that will solve it. hopefully it will. it’s not as if he doesn’t mean the words  :   he doubts that scarlett could ever find a friend as good as melody, who cares so deeply about her, and would do more for her than even adam himself. he’s willing to admit that much. he stares at her as she speaks, mouth hanging open and a sensation in the pit of his stomach that he can’t name, and can’t explain   ------   he’s not sure he’d want to explain it either. he takes the bottle of water from her hands, taking multiple consecutive sips before looking at her again.   ❛    i quite like you too, melody, but i must tell you  ------  i don’t think there’s much you could do or tell me that would make me change my mind about you.  ❜      

       “ i thought you knew better than that. “shooting her an incredulous glance, he shook his head with the very thought. oh he understood. he understood how differently his mother looked at him and audrey. he saw it, but never said anything. because he benefited from it. because for once, he was the center of someone’s world, he was the one that received more of their mother’s affections--not the photo perfect, audrey. picking up his pen and twirling it between his fingers, “why the hell do you care about some unworthy magazine that spewed slander. you can sue them for that.” something to lighten it all up before he lifted his gaze from the next theorem that a professor at the university had sent him before sighing. “then don’t go, scar. it’s easy isn’t it. don’t go. don’t be labeled as henry ackerman’s girlfriend. do what you please, you are scarlett fucking lefurgey. honestly, what are you so afraid of? a few words on a piece of paper?”  

      “you know i’m trying to help you.” he was half amused at how her reaction. sure, he should have been more scared but after almost ten years of friendship, to be afraid of her seemed to be--okay he was still sometimes afraid of him. sighing, he pinched the bridge of his nose. she was just frustrated and taking it out on him. he got used to it. “isn’t being henry ackerman’s girlfriend something you want to be? is it that awful to be called his girlfriend?” raising a brow, he got up from the table and headed to small fridge in the study. taking out to sparkling waters, he handed her one and looked at her with a small frown. “honestly, scar what do you want to be? you are scarlett fucking lefurgey. you can make a grown man cry. are you really afraid of what page six will label you as? ”

        blink. blink. blink.  he was still confused.  eyes narrowing as he tried to see if this was all a trick, all something to throw him off, but the earnest expression indicated otherwise. “he wants you to go to his father’s fundraiser with him.” he repeated to clarify before he let out a low chuckle and shook his head. “oh the horror. to think that he wants you to be his date and meet his family. what do you want me to say? at least he didn’t ask for anything gross like bondage or something.” he said with a cringe before lowering his pen. “do you not want to go with him?”

           was she always a terrible liar? it was strange, he used to recall the many pranks she would play with him by simply twisting her words. lowering his pen, he looked at his friend before raising a brow. “because it’s you. you don’t get upset over anything. not like this if it was someone you didn’t care for. i ruled out myself and melody because well--an calculated assumption. so the only ones left would be phillip or henry. but even if it was phillip, you would be more annoyed than--i don’t know how to describe this. worry? concern? anger? maybe a mix of all three? i’m not sure, but i’m going to say henry because of your last comment .so come on, out with it. we’re not going to get anything done if you don’t.”
