Because @veilxjumped gave me brain worms
She'd heard that a small shrine had popped up since they'd gone to the Temple of Mythal. Fascinating when one thought about it, that it hadn't happened sooner actually. There weren't many Dalish in the ranks of the Inquisition, but there were certainly some. Making her way over, she saw the elderly elf kneeling in front of it.
"Was this your doing?" Ashe asked once he turned toward her, unwilling to interrupt, and she offered a smile. She was far from disapproving. "It's a lovely idea. Is there anything I can do to help?"
Mere weeks he’d been in the care of this so-called ‘Inquisition’, and already the old Sentinel felt out of place and underfoot; still unable to properly wield a physical blade (though the shemlen healers insisted, as well as he could understand them, that his strength would return soon enough) Myndilon wandered the halls of Skyhold like a ghost. In a way, perhaps he was, he thought to himself sometimes, still haunting the mortal world long after his time should have ended.
Every now and then he would stop by the chambers of the only other ancient elf who’d deigned aid the ‘Herald of Andraste’— but that always seemed to end with a deep sorrow settling over them both. A mourning silence the elderly elf found he’d rather avoid, sometimes. Of course, he’d also tried to aid the Knight-Commander in training his troops— their form was hardly as well practiced as those he’d trained alongside when he was young,Myndilon had explained before attempting to demonstrate… and after toppling practice-dummies and a young foot soldier, was promptly expelled. Other friends of the Herald were similarly odd: the spirit-boy and the author… the little brat called Sera had even threatened to put an arrow between his eyes for the sin of speaking to her in what should have been their shared language!
So the old elf had resolved to help where he could— out of the way, and for those willing to seek him out. He’d been deep in his meditation when he’d heard and unfamiliar set of footfalls enter the chamber he’d commandeered to serve as his new ‘temple’… such as it was. His lips pulled into a wide, lop sided smile as he wrenched himself to his feet and made his way to join the young woman at the door. It took just a moment for him to understand what she said in her strange, modern tongue, but he still nodded. “It was,” he said, standing a little straighter. “I simply needed a place to perform my duties. My Lady— our work does not end with the vir'abelasan. There are many in your army who would do well to listen—“ he gestured to the small figure of the All-Mother on her make-shift altar— “and learn.” He drew a sharp breath, silver gaze shifting down to watch for the Inquisitor’s approval. “Would you like to sit?”
|| sometimes I wonder what other members of the inquisition thought of myndilon when he followed them back from the temple of mythal to skyhold, or when he decided to just make a little shrine to mythal right there in the keep? I feel like the reactions could've run the range of true curiosity, to indifference (he's just another elf? why care?) to derision.

@veilxjumped sent: “Does that make me a dumbass?” From Nelgorn!(either arlathan or veilguard!)
~ A smirk threatens to cross Solas's lips at the boy's crudeness. " I would not say that, " he asserts, managing to keep a neutral expression. The Dread Wolf certainly knew of Nelgorn, but had never met the young prince in person; never would he imagine Elgar'nan's grandson arriving at his doorstep, begging to join his rebellion. ~
~ " Do not berate yourself; the Evanuris' lies are like a poison, and have tainted every aspect of our world. Every elf is taught that their world is absolute -- that their rule is divine. To have seen the truth and to have the courage to fight against all your have ever know; it is a commendable thing, da'len. Have pride in yourself. " ~
The questioning of the Slow Arrow was grueling; Nelgorn had already been forced to wait a full day to meet the 'Dread Wolf', as he'd taken to calling himself (supposedly), facing a barrage of demands and questions and threats. Never in his life had he been so belittled, so questioned... and yet, he'd sought it all out. The young mage looked up from where he knelt before Solas, gold gaze meeting the older elf's. "You would not say that," he corrected, lifting his chin as he tried to stand as tall as he was able. "But you're probably thinking it." His eyes fell to the ground, his head dipping. "And you'd probably be right."
Nelgorn's jaw clenched as he heard a few skeptical scoffs over his shoulder; had he really come all this way only to make a fool of himself? "I just—" he drew a sharp breath, expression softening— "I just want to set things right. To help people. I mean sure, they figured out how to let you all—" he gestured to the elf before him, one of the first— "have bodies, which means the rest of us got to exist, but... but it's not enough. Our people should be free to do whatever they want, to be whoever they want." He took a careful step closer to Solas. "Please, my lord, let me help."
"We study the old magic around the forest, make sure all the ancient devices are safe. Or safe enough."
Norrim studied the old elf as he closed his eyes by the fire, took the chance while he wasn't paying attention to really get a good look at him. His vallaslin were much darker than other Dalish of a similar age, looked like they hadn't had a chance to fade with time.
And when he spoke of his past, however brief, she nodded sympathetically. She'd never experienced what he must have gone through, based on what she'd heard of Seheron and Qarinus, but she knew it couldn't be good. The weight of his words sunk in, and her expression shifted, becoming serious as she turned her gaze to the fire. She had a potential solution, but she wasn't sure if the old man would want to hear it.
"The Veil Jumpers could get you out of the north," she finally said, looking back up to him. "People came from all different clans, and some came from no clan, like me. We've got connections. We could get you settled somewhere safer, out of any magister's reach."
There was an itch near the back of his neck; he could feel the young Veil Jumper's eyes upon him, even if he'd closed his. "If you had a question—" he opened his eyes again, meeting Norrim's gaze— "you should not stare, you should simply ask." He shifted, wincing as he stretched his legs. "But I assume you were staring at my vallaslin." Belthan's hand moved up, a thumb brushing over where the twisting vines met at his chin. "I got them not long after my granddaughter and I fled Minrathous. That's where her mother was taken, after I was taken to Par Vollen."
"We know little of the Creators in Minrathous," he continued, taking a bit of tinder from his traveling pack and tossing it into the fire. The flames licked just a tad too close for the old elf's comfort— like they were reaching out for him— but he said nothing of it. "But the Keeper of my clan, for however long I had it, said that after all I'd endured, the markings of the All-Father would suit me best." A soft snort, and he shook his head. "Rather on the nose, but I suppose I should be complimented. I got them so I would not stand out. I wanted to be like them... but it simply was not meant to be."
The young mage's offer, though, gave him pause. How easy it would be to abandon everything, to take his little Haleth and run. After all, he'd done it twice already. "No," he said finally, shaking his head. "I appreciate your offer, but I still have business in the north. I cannot leave now."

Serious and scary, a soft exhale from his nose as he offers another nod, an amused look on his face as he keeps his eyes on the ground for a moment. Yes, he was certainly both of those things when it came to his role and his god, probably more so than necessary given his feelings towards the other.
❝I would be glad if you did.❞
Gesturing towards the other to follow, only going a small distance away to a hopefully more comfortable spot. Sitting down to speak across from one another always seemed to soften meetings, ease the nervousness, perhaps because it often had some object between them- this time a table. Joining his hands together to rest upon the table in a display to ease what may linger, no weapons, no sudden movements, only him leaning back a bit in his seat.
❝I've since thrown that position away, hard to serve a god that's locked away, hard to serve a dead one as well.❞
The word "dead" netting a soft sigh from him before he continues on.
❝That's not my life anymore is all I mean. I no longer act in blind devotion, it's been drilled into my mind to question, even the leader I follow should be questioned when needed.❞
'Course it would serve to irritate Viago if he was questioned, but the fact that he was willing to now was a big change in his mind.
❝This said, I'm using my past to serve the future, I want to ask about Elgar'nan. I'm sure I'm not the first to ask, but having lived during that same time, and served an evanuris myself, I believe I am best to understand.❞
Sure, the people of today were smart, but it was different. He had lived it, references that might be vague or questioned further he would understand immediately- probably. He knew the other evanuris, not as closely, but small things that might be lost in conversation he could pull on if they were important. And of course, relate. A conversation is best when understood, right? Bringing up a hand to push hair back out of his face just to rest on the table once more.
❝I know some things about him, things I was told by another god, things I was told by slaves, and things I picked up while out in duty. If I could reference them alongside your recollection, I believe it would be a great help. No matter how few things you recall, anything in this time is worth more than you might think.❞
He watched Bellanaris move to the table, golden eyes never leaving the man's hands; they would be the first indication of betrayal, after all, more than whatever the not-quite-stranger's eyes or words would say. Still, Nelgorn thought, if the other elf were planning anything, he was taking a mighty long time to set his treachery in motion. Nelgorn's shoulder's fell, and he slowly slid into the seat opposite Falon'din's general. He laid his hands upon the table, a mirror of Bellanaris, but unlike the elder elf, he didn't settle back; he couldn't, not in a place like this.
"You're lucky, at least, you found a place like this after you awoke," the boy said with a sigh, gaze shifting to the casino below them; it hummed with the sort of merriment he'd only seen at fine parties in Arlathan. "I like the Veil Jumpers well enough, but I do wish they'd try to dig up an old palace or two. You never really appreciate a bed until all you've got to sleep on is the ground." He gave a nervous little laugh, but quieted quickly.
Ah, of course. That's what this servant of Falon'din wanted— information. "I don't think you know any less than I do," he said with a helpless shrug. "The last time I saw my— Elgar'nan— I'd just turned seventeen." He paused, eyes shifting to the table. "About a year and a half before I entered uthenera. We didn't speak at length, it was my Mamae he needed to talk to. It seemed like a normal conversation, for a bit— they talked about my training, he seemed... well, not displeased. If he had been, I'd probably be ash." The young mage paused, brows furrowing.
"They also talked about something called... Luskan? No... Lusacan, that's right. They were arguing about it. My Mamae said it... whatever 'it' was... was dangerous, and that keeping it under Arlathan was like sitting on a smoldering fire." He snorted. "As I'm sure you could guess, that went over well." Nelgorn's slight smile fell once more, and finally he sat back, arms folding over his chest. "I'm not sure what else to tell you, I'm sorry."

‘Why aren’t we interacting?’
😿 - I’m too shy to reach out
😥 - I’m a little intimidated by your writing length / style / formatting
😵 - I don’t know how to approach you
⌛️ - You seem really busy
👥 - I don’t know which of my muses you’re interested in
📝 - It would help if you could fill my interest checker!
❓ - I’m not familiar with any of your current muses
📩 - I’ve sent you asks / written you starters, but you never replied to them
📤 - We have threads, and I’ve been waiting on your replies
💬 - I have a plot in mind for us, but I haven’t found the right way/time to reach out
💞 - I ship our muses, but I don’t know if you’re interested
✒️ - I usually interact through memes / open starters and you don’t post a lot of them
🥇 - You followed me first and I’m waiting for you to make the first move
🥰 - I’m following you because I love your writing and content and I just want to read your stuff
➕ - Other reason(s) -sender specifies-
WHY AREN’T WE INTERACTING?
recently i’ve noticed that the rpc seems to have trouble interacting with eachother–and i’ve seen a few of these memes go around, but i thought i’d make another!
❓ — i’m unfamiliar with your muse(s). 😟 — you intimidate me a lot. 📂 — you don’t reblog a lot of memes, and i usually interact through memes. 💡 — you don’t post a lot of opens, and i usually interact through opens. ⌚ — i honestly haven’t gotten around to it yet. 💔 — i ship our muses, and i’m worried that’ll upset you. 📜 — i’m a little intimidated by your writing length/style/formatting. 💤 — you followed me first and i’m waiting for you to make the first move. 🗣️ — i don’t have any ideas for plots readily available. ☀️ — i’ve sent memes/messages to you before, but you ignored them.
.
I feel like I’m missing something. Like people think I’m not good enough to rp in this fandom or like my characters are too weird. Or maybe it’s just a result of me being lazy and not knowing how to talk to people idk.
