We have been asking nicely for these to be removed, for years. For decades. We have tried to do it through proper channels.

This would have allowed these statues to be preserved. Town/City Councils could have had them relocated to art museums or history museums. Which would be fine. They could still serve the purpose this false narrative applies to them.

But for decades, we have been ignored. You had a chance to do the right thing, and still preserve your "history." You had lots of chances. Decades worth. But when we finally tear them down ourselves, now it's suddenly "but our historyyyyyy how will we knowwwww?" Read a damn Wikipedia article.
