You're like that huge christian no one wants to be around, you focus only on what you believe and what you think is right and everyone else is wrong and can't have opinions because theyre different. Yes, I'm sorry animals die for food, but that happens, that's life and that's how we were created, and yes you wish it never happened and you want to save them allll but that's not how things work and life isn't going to go your way, when it was planned and created another.
Well thanks for that. I'm so enlightened by your 'that's life' ethical philosophy. Please tell me more about how the progress of civilization happened because we all just accepted violence against those weaker than us with the words 'that's life'. Now I finally understand why my tribe is still locked in deadly warfare with that asshole tribe in the next village over who has the best flock of goats.
I can't believe people who eat meat actually criticise you for being vegan because 'that's still not good enough you're still killing animals/ doing bad things'. That's so incredibly stupid. Why would they criticise someone for doing their best when they themselves don't even try
I know, right?! It's baffling. I think sometimes it's because they are confused about what veganism actually means though. Many seem to think it's like Jainism - doing no harm to any organism, being pure, etc. When no, it's about rejecting cruelty and exploitation as far as possible, starting with saying no to meat, dairy, eggs, honey, leather, wool, animal testing, palm oil, etc. Not knowing or understanding this, they think they're being original by calling vegans out on accidentally squashing a bug or eating commercially harvested grain. Even worse, they use these things as *reasons* to keep eating animals themselves. Sometimes it's because they're trolling, sometimes they're being wilfully ignorant, but I do think (and hope) that sometimes it's because they're confused about veganism.
It's a bit like when idiots say to feminists, 'Why do you hate men?' They don't understand that feminism is about fighting for equality between the sexes, not about wanting to swap one kind of inequality for another out of man-hate. But of course, these are the same people who think they know all there is to know about feminism / veganism *rolls eyes*
I have a question for you. I suffer from Anemia. When the doctors first diagnosed me they put me on iron pills but we all quickly found out that they caused extreme cramps and intestinal issues for me. So I was told to eat red meat whenever possible to help with iron intake as well as veggies high in iron. Would you view someone that eats meat for medical reasons as scum as well? It is just a way to survive and be healthy, which is what all animals aim for, human or not.
Hi, sorry to hear you have anemia. From what you say, I'm assuming it's purely the iron-deficiency kind? I would recommend this article: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.htm if you're wondering where vegans get iron from. The red meat thing is unnecessary but doctors have a knack of making bad nutritional calls based on outdated information; many nutritionists aruge that meat-sourced iron is actually harder to digest / absorb than plant-sourced iron, especially as high-iron plants tend to be also high in Vitamin C, which naturally aids iron absorbtion. I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert in nutrition as I'm not, but vegan diets are demonstrably healthier than those that contain red meat, whether you are anemic or not. I hope you feel better soon anyway, anemia can be a horrible drag.
PS. I apologise for the whole 'scum' thing. Not a helpful term.

I have tears.
There's something I find so comforting about this picture.

you do realize that the cow is dead before you eat it and weather you eat it or not it's still dead.
Yep, but there's such a thing as a supply / demand ratio. I kept eating meat for years on the basis that 'it's already dead', but it's a crap argument. Nothing would ever change if everybody thought that way.The cow may be already dead but by eating her I'd be showing total contempt for her, as well as benefiting from and paying for what was done to her.
As for your other question, there are loads of good things about being vegan but the superpowers are definitely a bonus :)
Personally, I'm not a vegan, but i fully respect what you do. Its your choice, i dont see why others have to be such asses about it. Is there any particular reason you decided to go vegan?
Thanks. Yeah, I went vegan because I could no longer just accept the way animals are treated simply so that we can use their bodies for ourselves. I hate all kinds of exploitation and violence, but it seems like violence against animals is one of the few kinds of violence that's not only tolerated but promoted, celebrated, and profited from.
I was vegetarian for eight months before I went vegan, but reading about the dairy and egg industries, as well as things like animal testing, made me realise that it wasn't enough, because death and violence is such a huge part of those industries. Hope that answers your question.
I'm never going to become a vegan, but I've been reading through your blog and I just wanted to say that you're incredibly articulate and intelligent and I hope that people will be able to look past that one post you made.
Thanks! But please don't write yourself or veganism off with the phrase 'I'm never going to'... we never really know what's round the corner, how people's ideas change and develop. Three years ago I loved beef burgers and thought all vegans probably just had closet eating disorders: I was completely clueless about every aspect of these things. So you never know!
All of my sigh. Well, my family only eats from organic farms, where the animals are clearly well taken care of ad enjoy being there. I love animals and I have 4 cats and used to have pet chickens. The fact is animals eat animals. No, I don't approve of the torture and mistreatment of animals that's why I eat meat from somewhere that doesn't abuse animals. I am not needlessly taking lives, we are omnivores. We eat meat. It's natural. We can live without it but it's also natural for us to enjoy it
I have answered the exact same comments on my blog. I can't really repeat myself to every single person who says these same things about their 'happy meat' and the idea that all animals eat all animals all the time whether they need to or not: I've got stuff to do.
It's called respect, and if your wondering why a hell load of people aren't giving you any, it's because you haven't earnt it, you treat others like scum just because of the opinions they hold.
Loads of people are giving me respect, actually. If some (or a lot of) meat-eaters want to be hostile to be, I don't really care: there's a lot of it going around on the internet, and besides, it's nothing compared to what the animals go through. I can respect someone's opinion even when I think it's wrong, if it's cogently argued and sincerely felt; but I can't respect eating meat, and I'm not sure why I should. My respect lies with the animal who died for no reason.
I do regret some of the language I've used previously on my blog because I see that it is offensive and unhelpful, but as I've said in published responses to asks, this was always meant to be somewhere for me to vent about animal abuse. Now that loads of people have seen the blog, I have been taking more responsibility and have rowed back on the aggression (which was my way of burning off frustration with the cruelty I see). I've said all this on my blog, anyway. All the asks I'm getting now are just the same things I've already answered publically, which tells me that a) no-one is actually interested in my actual answers, and b) everyone thinks they're the first person to ever ask me each question.
