When will Emile Picani return from the war?

I think it was Patton’s parents (based on an aunt and uncle of mine, which makes me wonder if this is more common in certain cultures) in the story who were not exactly homophobic but do that thing of “but which of them is the woman/man?” With gay relationships. Patton doesn’t really notice it, and he doesn’t realize they’ve mentally assigned him as “girl” ever since he came out. So he gets included in “girl things.” He has to help cook and clean, where his boyfriend when he comes over is told to go relax in the living room with the men and watch sports or whatever.

Then they meet Roman.

I don’t think it was royality, I think Roman is just one of Patton’s best friends. But everything about Roman is masculine and feminine. So they can’t figure out what to do with him. They keep going “oh okay, this is man.” He plays sports, he works out, he’s strong, he physically is very masculine. But then he does something so opposite they can’t place him. He sings, he acts, he dresses wildly different from day to day, he gets so dramatic.

He knows how to cook and clean the right way, he understands football, he doesn’t have a problem helping with physical labor but he’s going to whip out a nail file afterward.

I don’t know where I’m going with this and the more I think about it the more I’m sure I never posted this anywhere. But anyway.

One moment you feel bad for Logan for being left out and not listened to, and the next you're like okay, you're not the greatest listener either Logan. Even if he says otherwise, he thinks his opinion matters most and doesn't actually value what the others have to say. Or if he does, he's certainly not making them feel that way.

You feel bad for Roman for having to contort himself in order to be accepted, just the amounts of self-worth issues that man has. Then the next you're like well, your black and white thinking has messed up your view of Thomas and the sides and now you see offense and rejection everywhere, even when there is none.

You feel bad for Patton for his moral dilemmas and losing people's trust, and the next you're like okay well you're being too condecending and demanding to the others. Just, policing how the others speak and react to things. Not cool.

You feel bad for Virgil for having his past mistakes still haunt him and making him feel like there has been no progress. Then you're like well, I get that you have a difficult history with Janus and Remus, but it is a bit hypocritical to not extend some understanding towards them after all this time. Why are you the only that can change?

You feel bad for Janus for being painted as the villain and going to such lengths to be heard, and the next you're like well, you have impersonated Patton several times. Like, he has hurt people. Even if his goals are noble enough his methods have been problematic.
