Alex Standall With Painted Nails Would Include…
Before Alex moved to Evergreen county, he used to paint his nails all the time
It wasn’t an edgy thing, or even a trend thing, he just genuinely likes the process of painting his nails, and how pretty he thinks it makes his hands look
There are different colours for different feelings. Colours that make his hands look delicate, colours that make him feel powerful
So one weekend, when he’s home alone and bored, hanging upside down over the edge of the couch, listening to music, he suddenly gets the urge to dig through the garage and find the box he and his mother used to keep their nail polish in
He’s less than impressed with the effort it takes, and he almost gives up, but then he has his hands on it
And he can feel himself getting excited as he digs through the polishes to pick out one he thinks will suit the new him best
He settles with black. Start bold and go from there
Painting each nail almost gives him a little rush, and puts an extra bounce in his step when he gets ready for school the next moring
Tyler is the first one he see‘s that day, and he instantly notices the nailpolish
He tells Alex he thinks it totally badass, and he loves it on Alex. That just makes Alex even happier to be back to his old self and expressing his personality through his accessorising
Then, he runs into Jessica, and she is super impressed by the precision of the strokes. And she thinks the black against his pale skin looks “totally hot. You could choke me, and I would thank you”
Justin doesn’t exactly say anything about it
He notices, Alex can see him staring at it the entire time they and Zach are talking at his locker, but he’s quiet until Zach is gone, then he leaves with a nod towards Alex’s hand, “blue would bring out your eyes better”
Alex is almost a little giddy after that. He thought he’d have to explain it, that people wouldn’t just accept it, but so far every one of his friends had been supportive of it, and it made him feel really good
Of course, there was an asshole jock, who whistled at him in class and sneered a mock compliment
Charlie shot him right down though, sat behind Alex overhearing the whole thing
Charlie then told him he thought it looked awesome, and he should totally paint them orange for Halloween. Alex agreed
Tony told Alex it makes him looks adorable. He could get any guy or girl he wanted like that
By the end of the day, Alex was on a total high. He couldn’t stop smiling. He felt so good in fact, that he even agreed to hang around and watch boring football training just to hang with the boys afterwards
Clay sat with him for a while, and when he noticed, he asked Alex if he had a colour like Hannah’s blue
When Alex confirmed he in fact did, Clay told him he should wear it “it’d be nice to see it, you know… and Hannah would really like it”
It was a beautiful approval, Alex thought
Then, the one he’d probably been most anxious about
Zach acknowledged it after training, and smiled as he took the boy’s hand in his, inspecting it. Zach didn’t actually say anything, but his face said it all, he was really happy for Alex, and Alex was really happy that he finally had friends who appreciated him for him
