There are times where I wonder where I would be if I wasn’t here… And it’s a pretty scary thought to dwell in.

"Seoul’s Chief of Police took time to address media outlets today in a continuing campaign against the masked vigilante known as Black Bat. There is some controversy associated with these continued attacks, especially given some of the more violent criminals that have been taken off the streets and put into police custody. Polls show citizens are torn on the issue. Some are calling her crazy. Others are heralding her as a necessary force for good. Whatever the case, the police maintain she’s breaking the law. I, for one, will sleep feeling a little safer tonight."

"the name’s jackson," he says simply and extends a leather clad hand towards the figure in front of him, a charming smile tugging at his lips. "you could always call me midas, if you’d like to." his tone is light—it’s obvious he’s joking, but his intense two-toned stare remains locked, unwavering and focused directly on the person he’s talking to. it’s easy to note that he’s not normal, at least from a genetic standpoint—his hair is naturally blond which in itself is unusual, but it’s that left eye of his, the eye that glitters like fine gold. he notices the way he’s being looked at and he can’t help chuckling, gesturing towards his eyes with a gloved hand. "it’s this, isn’t it? genetics, eh? what funny things."

"it takes thousands of years for evolution to happen and yet abnormalities like my eye appear in one generation," the way he refers to his ‘heterochromia’ makes it sound like that’s his only genetic mutation, but he knows it’s not. "anyway—i was wondering if you’ve seen this woman?" his brows arch curiously as he holds a picture out and nothing particularly stands out about her, she’s not vastly different from the average korean citizen, to the untrained eye at least. "you haven’t? alright, thanks anyway. could you help me spread the word around? her family misses her terribly." he shakes his head solemnly, the lie almost undetectable in his tone, his mannerisms and his facial features; he’s gotten good at lying over the years. he’s had to.

"Your new employee… she’s a rather odd one, isn’t she, Mrs. Hwang?" The middle aged woman pondered upon the question for what seemed like a small eternity. She liked Meilin - and even more so, Meilin’s daughter, as well as the mother’s willingness to do little chores for her in return for her caring for Ruolan, once her work hours were over. She appreciated her motherly love. But there was no denying that she was, indeed, quite the odd one.

"She’s Chinese." The woman finally stated, as if it would have provided an explanation of sorts. “But she’s a good girl. She works hard, she takes good care of her child. A good girl indeed. Yao-ssi, come here and introduce yourself to our client!” Mrs. Hwang demanded, only to have Meilin scurry into the room immediately, hands fixing the pleats of her maid uniform.

"Welcome home, master…" She started, on her cheerful tone, dedicated exclusively to clients attending the cafe. She made a 90 degrees bow, before motioning for the man to follow her towards one of the tables, patiently waiting for him to sit down. "I am Meilin, and I will be your maid for the day. How may I serve you?"

It had always been for Kai, mainly due to the fact that he grew used to disappearing and reappearing in an instant. The mode of travel was fast, effective, and damn well good enough to make him just a little lazy when it came to the natural method of transit. 

But his time on the earth proved that he had to keep his powers hidden; he avoided stares, questions, and the occasional run-in with a police officer if he just used his two legs. 

Perhaps today was the best day to take chances, because when he took the 'traditional' route, it got him hit with something... something gross. It was sticky, and it smelled like overly ripened fruit that had been drowned in a lot more sugar than needed. The sweetness made him feel sick. He stopped and rubbed his eyes clean of the goo, then looked up in hopes of finding the source of this mess. On the roof, there is someone -- he can't see his face, but somewhere in his mind he knew that the being was a tyrant. 

Might as well take my chances.
