FRUSTRATED
Waiting for other people to get their crap together in order for me to do my work is beyond frustrating. I get it, mentor teacher. You have a lot on your plate and I completely sympathize with your plight. But you also volunteered to have a student teacher in your classroom. So my sympathy only goes so far.
Things I Must Remember Not to Do When I Have Student Teachers:
Don't have a five day turn around time for emails that are crucially important for student teacher planning.
I get that you "feel bad" changing things at the last second and telling me in an email. But suck it up so I don't waste three hours writing a lesson plan for a lesson that WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
URGH.
This is what my mark book currently looks like for a particular class. I write deadlines on the board. I make the students re-iterate to me when the deadlines are. I remind them in the hallway!
It has come to this: each student with more than one missing assignment will have to take a...

When you graduate from university, you always think you will change the world.
You think you will be fair and be able to teach every single student in the class.
You think you won’t be like the others and you will be sure not to leave anybody behind.
You think you will have a team of teachers to support you when you need.
You think your students will admire you and think that you are the best teacher in the world.
You think the principal will see your dedication and praise you.
But it won’t be like this.

If you’re a teacher, you’re probably dying right now for several reasons. You’re welcome.
Oh. My. God. Best thing I've seen all day.
Is this going to be a recurring theme? Because I'm not okay with it.
Mentor Teacher: This is your student teacher, Ms. X. She'll be here for the next 8 weeks observing.
Senior Boy: *whistles* Oooh she can come sit by me *waggles eyebrows*

This has me wondering if there are some animated gifs that might make great photo prompts. Thoughts?
I think it could add a really interesting twist to the standard photo prompt.

It’s Official: Using Twitter Makes Students More Engaged
Further affirming what you probably already know, Twitter is evidently one of the best tools for learning and becoming an engaged student. We’ve covered the benefits of the social network ad nauseum for teachers and administrators over the past few years … but a new study solidifies the worth of Twitter for students.
Assistant Professor of Education at Michigan State University, Christine Greenhow, conducted a study titled “Twitteracy: Tweeting is a New Literary Practice.” In it, she found that college students who tweet as part of their instruction are more engaged with the course content, the teacher, other students, and they have higher grades.
At Technology High School, Goal Isn’t to Finish in 4 Years
The building and its surroundings in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, may look run-down, but inside 150 Albany Avenue may sit the future of the country’s vocational education: The first 230 pupils of a new style of school that weaves high school and college curriculums into a six-year program tailored for a job in the technology industry.
By 2017, the first wave of students of P-Tech — Pathways in Technology Early College High School — is expected to emerge with associate’s degrees in applied science in computer information systems or electromechanical engineering technology, following a course of studies developed in consultation with I.B.M.

Dropping the Ball
Heard from a very wise professor that I have to get used to dropping the ball, and more importantly, forgiving myself when I do once I start teaching. I have a feeling this will be pretty useful advice once I begin teaching and thus failing at life.
Oh joy. Can't wait.

I'm waiting for Taylor Swift to release a song called "When I was 11, I didn't date anyone"
So maybe my students will realize they don’t all need to be in “relationships” at this age.
Currently they’re stuck in the breaking up phase (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”), and I think it’s time they move on to a happier, nicer phase.
Hahah Love it.
