not from here - luke hemmings x reader chapter 2
series synopsis: you're a luke hemmings obsessed teenage fan in the year 2026. after an accident, you wake up in the year 2014 during the height of the boy band era, where you're allegedly a popular teen idol expected to join 5sos and one direction on the where we are tour. knowing what you know about everyone including your crush now.. will you able to maintain the facade that you actually know what you're doing AND you're completely normal or will you fuck up the momentum of the tour entirely?
You slowly blinked your eyes open, stretching your arms as the sunlight creeped onto your face. You were in a dark room, an unfamiliar one tooâhowever everything seemed to be unfamiliar lately.
A skyline you did not recognize stretched out over the window in front of you. Where the⌠oh wait, you were in Ireland.
It hadnât hit you that your kinda-new-kind-of-not-really celebrity life was for real. You were still expecting to wake up in the middle of 3rd period any second now.
You brought one of your hands up and pinched the side of your faceâyep, still nothing.
There was a sharp knock on the hotel room door across from you, almost on cue.
You let out a small groan as you slowly removed the comforter off of your legs. âHow would I be able to answer that if I was aslâYES, IâM UP.â
You launched yourself out of bed, grabbing the same pair of jeans you could vaguely remember throwing into some corner when you got there. In the bathroom, you did a half assed face wash and tried to make your hair look as neat as possible before you stepped outside, where Desmond was still waiting, on his phone.
âTwitterâs excited that youâre in Dublin,â He spoke, not looking up from the screen.
âHow do they know Iâm in Dublin?â
âThose girls you hugged this morning?â
You made an âOâ shape with your mouth before scratching your head.
âAnyways, come on. We might hafta rush, I think breakfastâs only going on for another half hour.â
âWhy didnât you just go downstairs and get food without me?â
âI was not going downstairs and looking a mess by myself.â
âYou calling me a mess?â
âYeah,â he snorted. âCOME ON.â
Everything that you expected to be at an Irish breakfast spread was there.
Eggs, bacon, toast, black pudding, beans, etc. You grabbed yourself a plate and sat down in the seat next to Desmond, who was sitting at a table with the rest of your team and awkwardly picking at his food.
âAlright team,â Stacy, a woman who you had come to know throughout the past few hours as your production manager, clasped her hands together. âFirst order of businessâright after breakfast, weâre heading straight to the venue for rehearsals.â
You did an awkward little head nod next to everyone else, who seemed to be completely fine with the program. Did nobody else want to lounge around in those memory foam mattresses for another hour?
âWe have a lot of catching up to do. Well⌠I donât wanna say a lot, but like, both groups of boys have already been in Europe for some time now, so they have a better grasp on how the showâs gonna go. We might need you to work a little harder than usual, Y/N, but that shouldnât be hard because you already know the routine and all that, right?â
Oh shit, you were a singer.
âYes, of course I know the routine and all my songs, as I have spent the past decade singing them to my glorious fans on stage, because that was all me.â
Stacy clicked her tongue.
â..Um, yeah. Today hopefully wonât be too bad, youâre going to meet the bands in person today, for one.â
âWait, like today today?â
âYes? How else are we supposed to rehearse?â She asked.
Desmond tilted his head slightly, staring at you with a mix of irritation and confusion.
âNo, no, yeah,â You laughed to yourself. âSorry, I got up kind of rough this morning. Whereâs the coffee stationâor tea station?â
âIn the corner over there,â Said another crew member, staring at you with slight bewilderment.
You nodded, quickly picking up your tray and taking it to that corner with you.
Okay, you kind of had your fun so farâenjoying reading about things you know you never did yourself but were apparently getting rewarded for, watching people praise you on twitter et cetera, but it was starting to get to a point.
Just how far were you going to get knowing damn well youâre larping your whole career?
âY/N,â Desmond spoke, suddenly materializing behind you. You jumped, and he raised an eyebrow.
âPLEASE donât pop up behind me like that.â
âSorry,â He shrugged. âBut seriously⌠What's up? Iâm telling you, youâve been weird since Tuesday, did the car smash your cranium or something?â
âI think Iâm acting normal,â You lied, crossing your arms. âGod forbid I be excited to tour around and meet new people.â
âBut since when have youââ He cut himself off, sighing. âNo, no, youâre right. Itâs good that youâre excited to be on tour and show off your new sound and all, but Iâm just sayingâitâs a bit weird how youâre acting like, weirdly brand new to all this? Youâve been doing this for most of your life.â
âYou know what they say, new album, new me.â
âOkay,â He replied, looking to the side for a second. âJust get your drink. Long day ahead of us.â
Outside of your hotel sat a giant van that was impossible to miss. Not necessarily because it was anything particularly stunning, but mostly because it was already being crowded by a group of teenage girls.
Security was standing at the back door entrance to the hotel, guarding it while a few other girls stood defeated a few feet away from them. They were most likely denied entry.
âDude, theyâre here already?â You said to Stacy, in slight disbelief as you, her, and Desmond looked over the balcony.
âUnfortunately, this is a public location. And someone mustâve got the details on where youâd be last night.â
Damn, you thought, staring out over the railing. These chicks are fast.
âI think weâre good to just get on,â A member from your crew, the rhythm guitarist, said as he gestured to the door. âWe loaded our stuff in earlier this morning.â
âOh okay, thank god because I was starting to get irritated.â
âCome on, buddy system,â Desmond spoke, interlocking his arm around yours. You shuffled out through the doors together, crew following closely behind as the sound of chatter got louder and louder with each step.
The second you pushed the doors open, you braced yourself and your ears for the high pitched screams piercing your eardrums. Security got on business immediately, blocking people and a few cameras from trying to swarm you.
Somehow, you managed to make it into the back of the van with Desmond and Stacy, while the rest of your crew followed suit. The windows werenât tinted or anything, so people standing by the side of the car that you were sitting in could still get a good glimpse of you.
You smiled brightly and waved, watching as the excitement in your fans' eyes increased by about 300 tons.
Almost immediately, the car sped off though, making you feel slightly bad because you knew how it felt to be standing and waiting a long time just for something inconvenient to happen.
Dublin was the hugest city in the country and a giant commercial hub, however you knew it probably wouldnât take long to get to wherever venue you needed to be, so you pulled out your phone and opened the YouTube app, searching up âY/N L/N live performance.â
And the second you clicked on the videoâyou sighed. You were fucked.
Thankfully it didnât look like too much was going on in terms of choreography, but you had never heard the song that you were allegedly performing in your life. Well, it makes sense. Itâs an original song YOU wrote. But not you at the same time.
By the time the car pulled up to the backstage entrance, you maybe knew the chorus and had a half assed memory of the opening sentence in the first verse.
âRemember, first impressions are everything,â Desmond whispered to you as Stacy pushed the door open.
You had never been backstage in your life.
You were kind of expecting the stage weirdly to be back there too with like a staircase to get on it, but instead you were met with like 50 dressing rooms, all of various sizes, one little common room that also served as a catering area, a tiny storage closet, and an even tinier elevator in the back.
Oh, and 2 white guys were already standing in the middle of the hallway expectantly.
The rest of your crew had already gone to where the stage ACTUALLY was to set up their instruments, so it was just you, Desmond, and Stacy, standing across from these randos.
âPaul! Itâs so nice to see you again!â Stacy said, walking up to one of them and embracing him in a giant hug.
âSame here, Stacy,â He spoke, a thick Irish accent rolling off his tongue. âItâs been too long.â
His eyes met with you, and he gave you a warm smile which made you feel slightly less uneasy. He got out of Stacyâs embrace and walked up to you, extending his hand.
âYou must be the lovely Y/N L/N, yeah? Everyoneâs talking about you. Pleasure to meet you, Iâm Paul Higgins, I manage the boys in 1D.â
You shook his hand back. âEveryoneâs talking about me?â
âYes, youâre practically the talk of the town. And youâre her manager Desmond, I suppose?â
âMhm, Desmond Jones,â He introduced himself, shaking Paulâs hand. âPleasure.â
âRight behind me is Matthew, heâs managing 5 Seconds of Summer, who as you know will also be co-opening with you for the European and North American leg of the tour.â
Your heart skipped a beat at the mention of 5sos.
Matt stepped up to you. He was a younger looking guy with a nice smile and seemingly chill demeanor.
âNice to meet you, Y/N. Matt Emsell.â
âHey,â You greeted, shaking his hand.
âSo whatâs the order of business right now?â Stacy asked, looking around. âWhere are the boys?â
âOne Direction just got on stage, youâre right on time,â Paul explained. âEveryone else should be in the audience waiting their turn. Weâre just trying to make sure all the instruments and mics work.â
âAnd also, if youâre hungry, we have bagels and likeâtiny cakes in the catering room,â Matt shrugged. âHelp yourself. We wouldnât want you to go hungry right now.â
âSo we really didnât have to semi-rush breakfast this morning,â You glared at Desmond, who just rolled his eyes at you.
Paul laughed. âI like you. You have a sense of humor.â
âDonât they? Theyâve been a lot more funny lately,â Stacy added with a laugh.
âIâm gonna choose to take that as a compliment.â
You could already hear the bass thumping slightly as you got closer to the actual theater entrance. And when you pushed the door open, there they were.
âSaid her name was Georgia RoseâŚâ
It felt like something out of a fanfic the way you locked eyes with Harry the second you walked in. As he sang, he scanned over you for a few seconds, gradually recognizing you, and he gave you a small smile before facing forward and continuing to serenade the imaginary audience.
You were pretty much standing in the pit so it didnât take long before the rest of the boys saw you too.
And even though you were sure you looked sooo cool and sooo nonchalant watching them rehearse..
Oh my god, prime frat boy era One Direction was standing in front of you, what the fuck.
It was literally just you and them plus their backing band on stage in the theater. You were fumbling with your hands and trying to stand normally.
Every clip from One Direction: This Is Us was deeply ingrained into your mind but seeing them in real life, standing close enough to you that you could practically feel the sweat from their shitty H&M muscle shirts slipping off and dripping down and onto your face was a whole nother level of insanity.
After a good few minutes of watching them perform in awe, you started to get extremely thirsty. You remembered the catering room backstage and began to make your way out towards it.
There was no one in the hallways and also no one in the catering room, which was great for you.
You grabbed a bagel and were trying to figure out whether you should swipe a Gatorade or a water bottle. Eventually you chose the water bottle because it was probably a good idea to not have your breath smelling like Cool Blue.
Strolling down the hallway, you took a giant bite out of your bagel and listened to your footsteps as you walked down the tiled hallways.
What you failed to see thoughâwas the giant puddle incoming.
Your foot slipped, and you felt yourself flying forward, dropping the bagel and your water bottle. You could hear it faintly rolling down the hallway as you landed on one of your hands. You quickly whipped your head up to see the culprit.
Who the fuck leaves a giant red cup to spill water all over the floor without cleaning it up?!
You rubbed the wet patch on your jeans, trying to soothe the spot on your knee that you bumped. Conveniently, you could hear footsteps walking towards you and you were desperately trying to ignore them, as this was an extremely embarrassing situation.
ButâIn front of you, a hand extended forward.
A messy blond quiff, azure blue eyes, and red flannel ripped straight from the thrift store flooded your vision. The dream of every 14 year old wattpad user.
You felt just about ready to swoon.. until you noticed he looked like he was about to lose it.
âAreâŚâ He snorted slightly, trying to bite back a smile. ââŚAre you okay?â
You could feel your face heating up in a mix of annoyance and embarrassment.
âI almost cracked my skull open, but we up.â
âWe up?â He repeated, pulling your arm to help you stand up properly.
You stumbled slightly on the water that didnât disappear from the floor, and began straightening out your now wrinkled hoodie.
God, people werenât lying when they said he was much more gorgeous this close and personal.
His eyebrows furrowed slightly and you realized you had been staring him down for an uncomfortable amount of time. You took a few steps back and tried to put on the most non threatening smile possible.
âSorry⌠Luke⌠Hemmings.â
âUhâŚâ He replied, giving you a now unreadable expression. âItâs okay.â
âLUKEEEEEE. WHICH WAY DID YOU TURNNNNN. THIS PLACE IS A LABYRINTH!â
Overlapping voices from down the hall began to get louder and louder until suddenly, the rest of the band was down the corner. You could feel your heart beat faster as Michael glanced over at you, eyes glinting in what looked like recognition.
âAw sick, Y/Nâs here already?â He spoke, extending out a hand to you. âLove your stuff!â
âThanks, dude,â You replied, ignoring Lukeâs piercing gaze.
âIâm Michael, by the way.â
âPretty sure you know who we are too, right?â Calum spoke from behind Michael, with Ashton chilling next to him.
âDuh doy,â You said. âWait. Do you know who put this cup here?â
âSorry, that was me,â Luke admitted. âWe just came back from the toilet to get paper towels.â
The music coming from the stage began to slowly fizzle out, and you shot a group at the rest of the group, knowing it was probably time to go back.
