after temple yesterday I was feeling very detached from my physical existence while walking to the train station— kinda dangerous in the busiest roads of the city! I was able to feel the pavement through my worn-thin work shoes and tried to connect to that feeling. My perspective changed suddenly— instead of feeling floaty, I could feel the streetlights and skyscrapers towering over me. The city felt like a kind of comforting fortress, I felt as small as a rat.

the spirit model is the theory that magic works because the will of the practitioner is carried out by spirits and deities.

animism is the belief that non-human things, including animals, objects, plants, and landforms contain souls or have personhood.

I suppose that’s a sign that I should reach out and research more. Offerings for the spirits of the dead have always been a part of my practice, even the dead unknown to me. Melinoe’s presence may have been a call for me to aid in the journeys of her restless dead, giving them offerings and respect to appease the forgotten and slighted, to earn her blessing to guide them back to Hades.

Melinoe’s status (via the Orphic Hymns) as a khthonic nymph is quite interesting, acting as one who mediates the relationship between the living and the dead.
