They chose to make Lestat not willing to open up though. The whole premise of TVL and making it a series instead of a standalone book was that "Lestat was finally ready to tell his story." They could've used Louis as the person he was ready to tell, but even in the narration he isn't being very forthcoming. That's a choice the show writers made, and it isn't working for a lot of fans.

I've seen a lot of "why didn't they keep the interview aspect for season 3?" and the thing is, we were literally shown why in episode 3. Lestat didn't cooperate. He was evasive, combative, and eventually just shut the whole thing down. He wasn't willing to open up to Louis, the person he loves most in the world, but you thought he'd talk to Daniel?
