okay americans i gotta ask because as an European i grew up with lots of american shows and cartoons and in a lot of them there was an episode where they give the protags a doll or an egg or a bag of flour or whatever and told them pretend to be its parents or something
is this a fucking thing that happens fr
yes, it's a thing
yes, it's a thing and i actually did that
no wtf
im not american
I left the egg in my locker and promptly forgot the combo and abandoned the locker
My school was incredibly under funded and I never got home economics or even a health class so I also thought these were fake TV things for years lol
I remember taking the class as part of an Elective including health class. Before the end of the semester, the teacher gave us two options, write an essay or take care of a doll for the weekend. Majority of the class picked to take care of a doll (some regretted it later on lol). While we did get a choice to choose the doll, the teacher however programmed each doll with a number that would cry at random times. She explained while each doll has an assigned "number", the dolls will record everything we do like feeding, burping, changing their diaper and making sure we're holding their heads properly, otherwise they will cry. She also warned us that the dolls will also record any abuse the doll endures, which will affect our grade. I lost a lot of sleep during the first two days and by Sunday I was able to sleep a bit before turning my doll in by Monday morning.
Majority of the class passed including the guys, except for one girl in my class. Not only did she fail, apparently the doll recorded all the numerous shaking and the doll sensed being "thrown"....
