Hey guys, just wanted to do a quick post letting you all know that my memory of the manga series is very very vague at best these days and if I donāt answer your question, itās probably because it requires me to delve back into the manga to refresh my memory and Iām happy not doing that lmao. Eventually I may feel inclined to do so again - maybe when VKM is over - but right now Iām hyperfixating on other things that bring me joy and not immense frustration. Iāve saved all of your questions in my inbox though in case that day does come, and Iām thinking I might post screenshots of some of the asks to post on the tags for the more active fans to reply to :) I just wanted to explain that because sometimes Iāll answer an ask on here, and there might be people wondering why Iāve skipped over theirs. Lmao I can only assume this is about Vampire Knight and all I said is that up to the point I left off in the spinoff I still held the same interpretation as before. I also said I haven't read it in ages and have no idea what is going on now, so that could have changed if I actually still had interest in the series which I do not. The same apparently can not be said for you, for which you have my deepest sympathies.
I have no idea if your still active but what do you think about the idea that Vampires werenāt some sort of evolution and instead were some sort of witchcraft attempt to gain immortality? I know the Ancestors popped up at random before finding each other, but Juuri and the Hunters use magic so it seems at least like a plausible idea to me.
I pop on every now and then but Iām not active in the fandom or up to date remotely on the series.
Itās an interesting theory, one I hadnāt really heard before. I feel like I recall the series saying something about a major climate change creating the vampires, which does indicate more of an evolutionary creation, but even if evolution could explain an extended life, it doesnāt really explain immortality or magical powers. Honestly I think you could probably develop any theory on the truth of their origin and make it stick because itās something Hino was deliberately vague on. She also never really focused much on the magic aspect of the series except in rare instances, so I feel like she sometimes forgot it was part of the canon. (For example, the nobles each having special abilities.)Ā
The hunters also have spells that they use actually come to think of it - because wasnāt there a charm or something that they used to erase peopleās memories? So I could see a combination of science experimentation and magic experimentation possibly leading to a mutated species, or like something you might see in a superhero origin story.Ā
Do you know anything at all if getoffthesoapbox will reopen their tumblr? I just remember they had some really good meta, so if you know anything at all I would be thankful.
I sadly do not! Although we keep in touch we havenāt really talked about the series, as itās something weāve both kind of detached from. Iāll let her know you were asking about her writing, though! ;) I think shutting it down was part of the closure process for her, to make it easier to move on from the series and focus on other things.Ā
I think Hino knows that the readers will be aghast seeing an adult getting all sexual with a child so she's waiting till Ren becomes an adult. I just don't find it natural for Ren to have sexual feelings for Ai and by making Ren proactive in this, I feel like Hino is trying to make Ai look not abusive. Same with Zero. By making him wait for Yuuki who never clarified her feelings (?) even if he is the victim, Hino makes it look like it's his wish. I agree with you that Hino damaged his character.
Woo sorry this is a super old ask, I went on a long hiatus from tumblr itself (not just the fandom) and didnāt see it until now.Ā
Initially I thought the purpose of having Ai behave the way she has was more about showing the differences between her and Kaname. Both were in an instance of having a sibling be born that they developed an attachment to, but both responded differently. As for Ren, as she is still a noble vampire (albeit with more pure blood than most) she would be susceptible to Aiās allure as a pureblood vampire, which I think in part is also why Ai was less proactive as she would likely have an awareness of this. So there are a few variables at play and she may not be consciously trying to make Ai seem less abusive or otherwise like she is taking advantage of Ren in any capacity. That being said, from what Iāve heard, Hino does seem to have developed an awareness of how some fans perceived the Kaname/Yuuki relationship and has possibly learned from that and is applying it to Ren/Ai while also trying to minimize or otherwise retcon aspects of it in Kaname/Yuukiās dynamic (via, I assume, memories or references to one another that neglect to mention the unhealthier aspects of their relationship from the original series, but as I said Iāve only heard this second hand as I do not follow the series anymore).Ā
I feel that Hino has lost a grip on most of her characters which is part of why I have dropped the series. I understand that characters have flaws, and characters change, and parts of what we are seeing of these characters are attributes that have always been there. But it is the neglect of other traits being present to balance them that have made the characters feel untrue to themselves, I think. So itās not necessarily that the characters arenāt behaving in ways that they have before, so much as they are missing chunks of themselves that made their flaws more palatable and relatable. At least, for me, I obviously canāt speak for anyone else.Ā

If a regular Noble/Level B vampire or a Common/Level C vampire drank from a Pureblood how long do you think theyād extend their lives?
Honestly itās never really clarified, so I couldnāt say for certain. I know one popular theory used to be that it could be extended indefinitely if you kept drinking from a pureblood. Another possibility might be that the more pureblood fragments you obtain by drinking from them, the longer the extension of your lifespan becomes, if that makes sense. So it might be less about how much pure blood you drink and more about how many purebloods you drink from, which would of course make it harder to achieve immortality (of sorts).Ā
Do you have any ideas or headcanons for a Male!Yuuki? Iām just so sick and tired of the manga and itās sequel that Iām trying to write a yaoi fanfic of Zeki.
Hi, Iām sorry for the late reply, I havenāt really been on tumblr in ages so Iām just seeing it now. I... honestly donāt have any headcanons for a Male!Yuuki, at least not that would be helpful as I feel Yuuki has become a lot like Kaname so I think my headcanons would reflect that which probably wouldnāt be helpful.Ā
What I would suggest doing is writing down a list of Yuukiās traits, and maybe thinking about male characters you know from other series that share those traits, and if some of that could be incorporated into Yuukiās character without changing the essence of it. Or think about popular tropes related to her personality type and gender flip it. (Like, we know Zero is a tsundere, so if you were swapping his gender, youād look at the differences between male tsundere and female tsundere characters)
I know this isnāt really a headcanon, but to be honest I just donāt have headcanons for this series anymore unfortunately so I hope that this at least could inspire some ideas to find your own.Ā
I understand how you feel. Just that seeing others who feel the same as me, it feels better. This series is getting worse with every chapter. It only arouses anger and pain inside of me so I can't blame you. I can't see any good happening to Zero anymore and yet I don't know why I'm still reading. After all the trauma he suffered Hino just keeps on torturing him more. I sometimes wonder if she is getting some sick pleasure by all of this. I wish no magazine hires Hino anymore.
Iām glad that it makes you feel better to know youāre not alone in your feelings. Sometimes thatās the worst part, feeling like youāre the only one disappointed or let down by something that you want to like but ultimately canāt. Iām gonna reply to the rest of this behind the cut, to spare peopleās eyes.
Blacklist: vampire knight criticism, yuuki criticism, zero criticism, hino criticism, and for good measure Iāll throw in the anti tags as well, so - anti vampire knight, anti yuuki, anti zero, anti hino. I donāt actually consider myself an anti but who knows what people have blacklisted *shrugs*
Honestly, at this point Iām not even invested in anything good happening to Zero because I feel his character has been damaged by Hino just like Yuukiās was. Iām not really a fan of the fact that both Zero and Yuuki were aware of Aiās feelings for him and did nothing to help her through it. I can understand ignoring it initially, expecting it to go away with time, passing it off as a childās fantasy, etc. Once she started entering into a slumber though, before Yuuki herself even felt the need to do so and while still being much too young, their lack of action IMO isĀ reprehensible.Ā
Thereās also the fact that Ai made it pretty clear that she wanted them to have a kid together so she could take the child for herself to feed from, and then from what weāve seen, Ai spends the most time with Ren who in turn develops an unhealthy attachment and desire for her. And maybe I could pass it off as being like Shiki and his mom, but Ren specifically condemns herself for her feelings and acknowledges them as something dirty and wrong, so itās not just a childās hunger, itās a womanās, and more than likely she is unintentionally picking up on Aiās desires, ala Sara and Takuma which is why it strikes her at a young age. Ai, fortunately, has been good about setting clear boundaries and not acting on the things she claimed sheād do as a child, so at least thereās that.Ā
And then, characters and relationships aside, thereās just the fact that Hino doesnāt seem to know WTF she wants to do with this series. She started it off as kind of a series of oneshots, then she tried to do some semblance of an ongoing story but even then, she jumped over the resolution to any of the shit she brought up, so it was half hearted at best and just added drama for dramaās sake which is not what she used to do. Her drama for the most part used to serve a purpose, and not just be to add spice to the story. Now she just introduces these plot threads and then abandons them, and maybe sheāll revisit it later - like the Vampire King - and maybe she wonāt. Who knows?Ā
Plus, at this point I feel sheās just being plain manipulative with her readers. Making Kaname be the cover page of the last chapter when it had nothing to do with him and was entirely focused on Ai and Ren could not be called anything less, and I may not be a huge Kaname fan, but even I donāt think thatās right. At least Zeroās cameo in the last chapter made sense, given he was working and actually present for what was going on. Kanameās was basically there just because.Ā
And truthfully? Iāve gotten to the point where I feel the past sections of the story are doing more harm than good, and where I think the story would benefit more from focusing on Kaname in the future. Iām not about to get invested in the past sections and the latest threat when Hino hasnāt resolved a single plot thread from her past sections. She just skips over it and youāre left to assume it has been resolved, or it hasnāt been, who knows because VKM is basically a pretty Choose Your Own Adventure story so you can be both right and wrong. Itās likeĀ schrodinger's cat.Ā
All in all, the series is a mess, and I think the fandom as a whole - even if theyāre still enjoying it to some degree - has gotten fatigued with it going in circles and kind of having no plot. It kind of reminds me of a slice of life series with no real endgame in sight, except those at least usually have an overarching theme, or intriguing characters that help you overlook the fact that nothing has really happened in the plot itself. VKM relies on the fondness we had for the characters in the original series and underestimates its own ability to squash that like a bug by not doing them justice.Ā
About being a Debbie Downer, you had once talked about how our fandom expects everyone to be positive and fun all the time and why expressing negative things can be good sometimes. I don't think you should worry about being a Debbie Downer

Light teasing aside, itās not that I worry about it so much as I havenāt seen the point unless people were really interested, and the reaction when there were critical but still optimistic posts being published was not always great, and I just donāt have the energy for people to be agitated if they disagree with my thoughts. I was (apparently) excluded in the minds of people making call out posts and treating critical fans like antiās because IĀ āprettied my posts upā and sounded nicer about it despite expressing the same opinions, but I wouldnāt be sugarcoating my thoughts now so Iām not so sure Iād get the same pass twice. And while I donāt necessarily care what people think of my opinions themselves, I donāt have the energy for people trying to convince me to change them because they disagree. Iād probably be less kind about it than I have been in the past, despite not wanting to come across mean or rude, and it just hasnāt been worth risking hurting real peopleās feelings over a fictional series thatās spinning in circles and ultimately not worth my time.Ā
If people were interested in my negative thoughts anyway and asked, maybe because they feel the same, Iād share. But as I havenāt gotten any asks for that,Ā that doesnāt seem to be the case and I have no intention to go out of my way to share them without prompting. Expressing negative things can definitely be good, but only if youāre still getting some form of catharsis from it and at this point I only remember the new chapter of VKM is even coming out because other people mention it. If I didnāt have friends in this fandom, I wouldnāt even be paying attention to it, so catharsis in my case isnāt really necessary anymore.
All this being said, if you or any other person really did want to hear my thoughts on anything in particular, knowing that it would likely be negative,Ā Iād still try to answer. But once I warned a few of my anons that my thoughts were not positive, I stopped getting them, because that isnāt what people were looking for. In a lot of cases when people are feeling upset about a series or disappointed, they look to other members of the fandom to give them a reason not to be, and I just donāt have any.Ā

Iām not sure about @getoffthesoapboxā - I suppose if the series did a real turn around it might be possible, but generally speaking I know she wasnāt really happy with any of the characters in the series at this point so there was nothing really left for her to have an investment in other than closure for a series sheās followed for a long time.
As for myself, I donāt think that Iāll return in a huge capacity, for kind of similar reasons. I just donāt have anything positive to say about the direction of the story, and while Iām not opposed to posting criticism, I only find that worthwhile when I think that thereās a way to rectify those criticisms or when I see it as a possibility for them to be addressed. Iām not really one to indulge in hate-reading or hate-watching for more than a short period of time, and Iāve kind of exhausted that with VK tbh.
Thatās not to say Iād never return, of course, just right now thereās not really a lot going on in the series to keep me interested and because I deal a lot with hyperfixation as part of my anxiety, I tend to be pretty busy with whatever Iām obsessing over at the moment anyway. Right now Iām trying to balance The Walking Dead with the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which doesnāt leave me a lot of room to care about Vampire Knight when itās kind of boring to me personally right now.Ā š (Which is not meant as a slight against anyone enjoying it - itās boring to me because the things I enjoyed about the series are no longer present, but there are things other people enjoyed about the series that are.)Ā
People are still free to send me asks though, and Iāve never deleted any so I might still answer them if the series starts getting interesting for me again. If people want to chat with me one on one about the series too, Iām always open for that, and I try to hold back a bit on the negativity when I can or just bow out of the conversation when I canāt.Ā š I know people joked about myself and others wasting time writing long ass meta posts, but the reason I was able to do that before is because I found it fun. Itās not really fun and feels more like a job to try and put any thought into this series as it stands right now, so thatās why casual chatting works better in this instance.Ā

Iām kind of 50/50 on astrology, I think your regular astrology sign from the month youāre born isnāt always necessarily very accurate (for example, I rarely related to aries-qualities growing up) but the natal charts seem to be more thorough and hit the nail on the head quite often.Ā
My general opinion of astrology though is that itās less about what other people tell you it means, and more about what you take away from it or how you personally interpret it for yourself.Ā
Iāll admit I donāt know as much about it as some, though. One of my friends thatās interested in it kind of got me to do the natal chart but I didnāt really know much about the different nodes or anything like that.Ā
why do you Zero fangirls feel this need to attack the writer because your "theories" proved false. You call others "surface" readers and later cry foul. Even though VK always had plotholes, Night 92 'Proof of Knighthood' where Kaname sacrificed himself for humanity proved him as the Vampire Knight. The story is going as predicted. You need to keep your Zero favouritism and also hatred aside in order to see where and why YOU failed in understanding the story and the characters including Zero.
