One thing that genuinely terrifies me about being kindred is the concept of time through a vampiric lense. I know that isn’t exactly a new take, but hear me out. It is generally understood that the longer you live, the more warped your perception of time is. A decade or so to a human is a lifetime for a dog etc.. yaddah yaddah. Nothing new there. Everyone wants to talk about the horror that is watching time pass, but no one talks about being time blind.

One thing I do not see discussed at all is how unreasonably fast time passes for kindred compared to other immortal creatures. Vampires only have HALF of a day cycle. Consider that a moment. If we’re being incredibly generous, let’s say sunset is around 8pm and you have a relatively high humanity. You basically have the equivalent of a 9-5 to experience your night and accomplish everything you’ve set out to do. There’s absolutely nothing for you after that point. Once the sun begins to rise, you embrace death once more.

Assuming you don’t have a flaw/skill that allows you to dream or an exceptionally high humanity, you’re trapped within a void until you reanimate again. Over and over and over, you awake into darkness and race against the sun to try to live whatever life you still cling to. With half the time. Far less the lower your humanity goes. Given how short your waking existence is, I can only assume that the nights must blend together maddeningly. How much faster do your loved ones die when you don’t even have a full day to spend with them? How much faster do you age? How much time do you lose when you barely have any to spend? What’s today’s date…?

imo, trying to determine a 'good guy' faction in VTM is futile and flawed at its core. None of the sects can be 'good guys' because everyone is a literal bloodsucking monster by default.

There are individuals (including inside of the sects) that may follow a path of humanity, and even then, they are 'human' in comparison to the others among their kind. Mortal notions of morality and 'goodness' don't always function outside of a stable status quo even amongst the mortals, let alone for vampires navigating their own world with its own unique history and politics among the clans and the sects.

The Camarilla and The Sabbat are usually, obviously, accepted as 'bad' but the Anarchs are not 'good'. They were once the same as the Sabbat and while now they usually lack the cult aspect and generally accept that they have to conceal their nature, they can still be very violent and have schemes of their own. They simply don't want to follow the laws of the Camarilla because they don't wish to be constrained. They object to the Camarilla's lack of personal freedom, not their lack of morality.

A lot of disdain for the Camarilla comes from their desire to wear a mask of civility over their monstrous nature and actions, as well as their more rigid laws and hierarchy. Most vampires that choose to be with any of the sects, want to be on the top of the chain or seek security and resources that an individual path does not provide, they simply have to decide how they want to do it depending on which set of principals appeals to them the most.

perhaps im just simply a hater but my immediate reaction to hearing about the vtm/dnd crossover was mostly just annoyance

#look i enjoy the game but the dnd-ification of every other ttrpg just bc its the most mainstream one annoys me #my posts

now i can finally play as a vampire: the masquerade character in a tabletop roleplaying game

I've mostly been playing mine in beach volleyball and not gonna lie it hasn't gone very well

likely because volleyballs are notoriously terrible LARP partners
