Darkness took its hold upon the world as the night began to close its fist. Felix knew not if they’d have to spend the hours of dark in here alone. It was a tricky situation, two foreigners, one a married man, the other a young woman presumably seeking a certain suitor. “Patients is indeed the salve for most situations.” He looked about the room, looking for a way to erect a temporary curtain or wall should the two be required to stay much longer.

He started gathering things, clearing the objects off a small table so he could turn it upright with the intent to drape a curtain over it. Crude, but it would be effective.

“I do not have any idea of when we will be permitted to leave, non.” The Frenchman’s tone was at almost a growl, he was something he seldom was, something he did not like the feeling of. He was worried. Still it would do not a pennyloaf of good to allow this to cloud his judgement or control his temper. With an effort he still his fidgeting. It would not do well for him to be weak at a time when there was a lady in need, would it ?

“I can sympathize, mon amie. My petite Auguste is out there. He was with friends when this happened and I can only hope he is with someone he knows at least and not being locked away with strangers. It is bad enough he knows minimal English.”

Anna’s anxiety was only heightened by the vicomte, whose boots paced back and forth, back and forth, back and forth over the floor. Rhythmic, agitated steps as the princess placed her plump hands against the wrought-iron window frame, peering down below at any form of life or rescue in the nearing dusk.

Henry. Henry. She hoped Henry was okay, hoped he wasn’t storming about in a fit of temper, brewing within himself, or, worse, in a cloud of fog, darkened by a sense of his own mortality. Even so, she thought, that must have been better than death. It must have been.

Turning from the window, she walked briskly to a golden tray, laden with tea and cream and cups that had been abandoned in the plight. It was cold, “Dear Vicomte, please, sit, have something to drink with me. It will make you feel better, most assuredly.”

He had just come into the room to retrieve a forgotten jacket that had been cast off earlier, and suddenly he wasn’t allowed to leave it. Felix had been fine for the first little bit, but after a couple hours of this he had begun to pace incessantly, probably driving the poor sweet woman who had been stuck in here with him to distraction. Indeed that did seem the case when she entreated him to take a seat and have a drink.

It was with slight reluctance he acquiesced, taking the seat across her. While this stalled his pacing it couldn’t halt his foot from tapping. “Mes excuses, mademoiselle. I do not know how much it will help, but I shall attempt to settle.”

I traveled so far simply to steal the sweets of the English before making my triumphant return as a glorious new hero for accomplishing such a insurmountable feat !” Felix responded cheekily, a smile upon his face. Granted, as a foreigner, and a French one no less, he like as not shouldn’t be wandering around at night, but he had gotten quite turned around on his way back from the stables after checking up on his steed. Which he had only waited this long to check on because Auguste would not settle down.

dorothea had went down to the market around noon, leaving her boys in care of the kitchen maids who were kind enough to do so for a few hours, the thin cloak she possessed and wore barely shieding her from the unforgiving icy wind that blew around her, scratching on her usually soft skin like rough sand. the hem of her skirts was dirty and wet, making the fabric heavy to walk with as she decided after getting what she needed to go back. it were a few necessary things in case one of her boys should catch a cold, and a little surprise for them even thoug the money barely brought them through the week, she couldn’t help but think that they would like the small wooden figures.

marching into the market was already a hard task with muddy and slippy roads, it took her about an hour at noon to get down and it would clearly take her an hour back as well. cold hands pulled the cloak cloer around her body as she moved with slow but steady steps towards where she came from, it only dawned on her that it might could get worse when she felt the first few drop of rain hitting her forehead when she sighed aloud, looking up at the cloud filled grey sky. god truly was not on her side, shee thought as raven heard curls clung to her face, soaked clothing making it harder to move towards the castle. the water and snow that run down her back made her shiver tremendously as she froze like never before.

feet had gotten heavy and she still had so much way in front of her, as she slipped on some ice that she had not seen and fell onto her knees. one might think, if they did not know her, she was a beggar, but she carried herself with to much grace and fire in her attitude for someone to mistaen her like that, yet the greatest whore knew how to carry herself like that, only one difference was, that even if she wore out fashioned dresses, it was something no whore could afford.

the former countess now looked a mess with her dirty clothes, shivering from the cold drops of water mixed with eyes that were still soaking her.

The recently arrived Frenchman was on his way back from the docks, fetching the last carriage of boxes and things he and his son had brought over with them. Sure, he might have sent staff to do this slightly tedious and definitely menial work, but Felix had felt the need to get in a workout after the long days stuck in a ship, a method of travel he had never really cared for. The cold day had decided to make it so much better by splitting the heavens and dumping cold water upon all things in the way.

He was grouching slightly about English weather when he noted the woman walking in it. Reigning in his horses he sprang down from his perch, landing neatly next to her. “Excusez moi mademoiselle, but may I be so bold as to offer you a ride back to wherever it is you are going ?” he inquired, voice deep and accent think but not so much he couldn’t be understood. The Vicomte gestured towards his carriage.
