“Uh right…” Cap slowly replied, feeling somewhat slack jawed in terms of a response. He couldn’t even begin to imagine the things running through Jill’s head right now, on how bad everything looked and seeing as if he’d broken her promise to her. In reality, Steve had no idea that Jill would even be at this location, let alone investigating an abandoned research laboratory among other things in the woods. What exactly were the odds here of being caught in a compromising position without being able to say anything that could defend himself and look justified doing it? The slightly harsh and cold tone that embodied her voice told the Captain exactly everything they needed to know: right now essentially, he was fucked. “I was sent here by a contact to investigate some strange activity and readings that were being gathered and generated from this area. I wasn’t expecting to find myself on a mission, but when I was told about what might be going on over here, I had no choice but to suit up Jill. I wasn’t intentionally trying to interfere in your investigation, I promise. i try my absolute hardest to respect a person’s wishes when it comes to these sort of things unless my hand is ultimately forced. You don’t have to believe me, but I would hope my reputation speaks for itself. I’m sorry.” He sighed, unsure of if he was even getting through to the ex-cop or not. “Wait, you know Tony? How on earth did Stark manage to contact you? Unless you’re old buddies or something?” Steve knew that in Tony’s world, being a wealthy billionaire playboy meant that you crossed paths with hundreds of new people you didn’t know every single day, and while he probably enjoyed it, Steve didn’t think that Tony actually knew Jill. “Uh, never mind. Let’s just try and focus on the task at hand since we’re both already here then.” He followed her through the broken gates, not wanting to test her right now.
Once they were through the gates, Steve did a quick battle scan of the area to see if anything in the place stood out. There were tall satellite towers that produced various sprays and mist of water to grow and feed the ever expanding field of crops there, leaving the Avenger to wonder just what exactly the scientists of this place were actually doing here. “This place has to be more than just some irrigation plant. For there to be so much commotion coming from the higher ups about this place as well as violent activity, this doesn’t seem right,” he commented, checking around through the fields. How did someone create a whole ass testing sight in the middle of the forest exactly? They continued through the crops and fields until they finally researched the main entrance door of the facility, and naturally the front was completely blocked off to protect the place from any would be intruders or invaders. Cap tapped on it a few times, even whipping out his shield to see if he could charge his way through it, but those doors weren’t budging at all. “I could try and force my way through with my shield, but with that effort it could actually take a while to break through.” The Avengers leader considered his options. There was no telling how far down this lab went, and clearly digging underground wasn’t a viable option, not without Thor or the Hulk here to lend a hand. “The roof,” Steve suggested, “if we can get up to the roof and find an entrance through there, we can descend from the top all the way down to the bottom to ensure we’re covering all ground and all our bases. If you run towards me and jump on my shield, I can catapult you high enough to get on the roof. If you find a way in or anything of interest, just radio me. If I can’t get in through the front door, I’ll join you on the roof. Believe me, I can get up there. You ready?” Steve asked, crouching down in position. He only hoped she didn’t see it as an opportunity to kick his shield square into his face.
She heard him talking. Picked up on every word, but the focus had quickly shifted in her mind. They didn’t have much time to go over why the other showed up here and even if Jill had been disappointed in his unwanted involvement--she couldn’t let that hinder the mission. His tone was overlapped with an apologetic sound wave--if she had the time to react in just that moment then she would have probably said something more engaging. Instead, the agent just shrugged it off and put it on the back burner for now. “Mutual friend,” she answered the bit about Tony. Directly before averted her eyes over the now broken gates of the facility. She would have figured that the word would wrap around the entire Avenger’s grapevine or whatever. She just figured a team as prominent as them would have had plenty of time to communicate about what they found on her. As far as Jill was concerned if it really was that deep then they could set up a grand fucking meeting later for all she cared. Get out all the questions they wanted to ask her and then go back to handling their own business just as she would with hers.
The crowded crops around the place gave her an odd feeling. Too many times before if anything like this gave her a hint that something may have been alive waiting to eat them underneath the bright green weeds. Or maybe it was just for show. Make it look like a harmless medicinal site for outsiders looking in. That’s how companies like umbrella worked. This one gave her similar vibes from the moment she whipped up pictures of the place. If Stark would have left out the fancy little signature at the end of his email--Jill would have deemed it a setup. Though, she had a feeling they weren’t going to be alone going into this place anyway. It was never that easy. She didn’t expect it to be either. “All it takes is one corrupt law enforcer and you'dn't believe what they could get away with,” she added to the comment. Keeping her tone professional with a slight hint of dryness. She was sick of this shit, but too determined to stop them to walk away for good.
Jill nodded in agreement as they assessed the area. Going into the roof could prevent avoiding any extra security alarms. That alone would give them more time to get in, find what they needed and leave. When Steve was ready, she gave herself a fair distance before running towards the shield and hopping up to the top of the ledge. It was smooth with his help and she wasn’t entirely sure if his added strength helped her get up there so easily, or if it was just all her. A success either way. She found a hollow point. Seemingly an air vent damaged by a lightning storm and convenient enough for her to make way into the building. Kicking the vent off to the side. She dipped down into the dark path. It wasn’t long before she found the entry point and kicked the next vent loose enough for her to remove without making much commotion. “In,” she said through the tiny radio attached to her ear before dropping down to the cold white tiled floor. The lighting was dimmed on the inside and Jill had landed just adjacent from the clerk desk with the branded company written on the front. No cameras had moved into her direction yet from what she could see. And she expected them to be disabled at some point. She figured that either Steve was on his way or he would pop up right behind her at any moment. Either way, she was heading towards the lower level. Slowly surveying the place, she examined the door to the left of the desk. It would take her to where she needed to be. After the damn thing was unlocked. A slight roll of her eyes as she made way to the other side. “Stairs are locked off. I’ll head into the back of the lobby to see what I can find. See you when you get here,” she spoke low before heading through the double doors. It already felt like a mimic mazed of something she’d seen in RC before. At least she was prepared. She thought.
