> coming out under fire (1994) dir. arthur dong
Aye, you're playing a dangerous game by pointing out 'British food bad' is classism. I've seen these debates before. They never end because people seem to think jellied eels are something we eat every day (and are for some reason really squeamish about haggis, as if it's not literally just a really, really round sausage technically).
It's a hill I will die on. Beans on toast in particular was born out of rationing during the war, and continued afterwards. Food rationing didn't stop until 1954, almost a decade after the war ended.
The UK only paid off its debt to the US and Canada during World War 2 in 2006. In some ways, the US treated its previous enemies better than its allies after the war, they forgave a significant chunk of German debt to allow the country to rebuild.
Me with this answer:
if you start introducing nice things into your life it's a slippery slope and you have to be careful in case you start liking it when things are nice
The internet may threaten to make perpetual shoppers of us, but it offers heaps of information about repair and mending too. Here's our pick
iFixit
iFixit is a wiki-based site that teaches people how to fix almost anything. It was started in 2003 by Luke and Kyle, in a dorm room at California Polytechnic University when they tried to fix an old iBook together. With no instructions, they tinkered, fiddled, broke some tabs and lost some screws. But they fixed it. When they decided to start selling spare parts themselves, iFixit was born. It now hinges around its step-by-step repair guides, which are free to download and use under Creative Commons licenses.
Now, anyone can create a repair manual for a device on iFixit and anyone can edit the existing set of manuals to improve them. The siteβs founders say that thousands of people make use of the guides every day.
βWeβve heard repair success stories from forensic detectives, field translators, and even kids,β say the pair. βFrom New York to Alaska, Tibet to the Faroe Islands, people have used our guides to fix their stuff.
βOur philosophy is that if you canβt open it, you donβt own it. Once you disassemble, repair, and put back together your laptop or iPod, you have a much better understanding of what goes into it. Itβs astounding how just 20 minutes of work can make an iPod good as new β but most people have no idea that there are instructions available to make the work easy. And why should they? Apple tells everyone that the battery isnβt user-serviceable.
βThatβs where we come in, filling the ecosystem hole that Apple created by manufacturing a device without an end-of-life maintenance and disposal strategy.β
Fixing the world, one gizmo at a time.
Restart Wiki
This is a place where members of the Restart community share tips for mending appliances and gadgets with people who are starting out, or whose knowledge lies elsewhere.
This wiki wonβt show you how to fix a particular make and model of device: they leave this to the various fix-it websites and disassembly videos. (You can also get help with a device on social media using #SOSRestart). Rather, contributors to this page concentrate on basic and widely applicable principles, for example soldering and how to stay safe while fixing things.
The site is aimed at anyone with a curiosity about how things work and how to fix them. No prior knowledge is assumed. In the spirit of spreading knowledge as widely as possible, everyone is welcome to read it β and to share it. Anyone is welcome to reuse anything on the wiki, under the terms of the Creative Commons ShareAlike Licence 3.0.
Makers of electronic devices will have to make their products easier to repair under the EUβs right to repair legislation

The upside to the adhd forgetting that you made yourself a drink thing is thinking to yourself βman I could go for a drink right nowβ and looking to your right and seeing a drink has appeared there. Thank you, past me. I lost you somewhere but you have still provided.

Long-tongued, termite-munching numbats are no longer endangered due to decades of successful conservation efforts, the global authority on the status of the natural world says.
Also known as banded anteaters, the status of the pint-sized marsupial has improved to near-threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. ''Today's assessments show that long-term, strategic and collaborative conservation effort works,'' conservation biologistJohn Woinarski said on Friday. ''Without it, invasive cats and foxes will continue to drive Australia's small marsupials and native rodents to extinction.''

This is actually such a crucial part of healing from neglect and abuse and I have to add to this.
Because indeed, people who like you will not roll their eyes and sigh at the idea of accommodating your needs, they will value your voice and be upset with you about injustice done to you, not at you for "being difficult". They will be happy when you find a way to live a better life, and help you to get there. If you are struggling, someone who loves you wants to see you smile, not tell you to smile because "you have it so good".
its so fucked that not only did they erase our languages and beat and kill our people for using them but they stole the words of important tribes and important people and used them for the military and for trees and for food and for summer camps. average native american name is seen by non ntvs as a joke or something to use or consume, not a human being
i like that ppl r thinking abt town names and things thats very good to be aware of but just to be clear this is actually specifically about other things actually, the things everyone but those looking up their nation forget about
sequoyah was the man who created the tsalagi syllabary before it was ever a tree
if i try to look for apparel or crafts to show off my chickasaw pride, i get results for chickasaw plums which is just a specific species of plum before i get results about human beings
others have mentioned if they google their nations name they get boot companies before their nations website!
theres a tweet that still haunts me that was about a Quirky Quasi American Restaurant in europe or somewhere that was being funny by being cowboy themed and their steaks were named after native american nations. even outside the usa we are nothing but literal dead meat for others consumption
"blackhawk" "apache" - fuck theres a whole wikipedia page for the way weve had our names used for weapons used to colonize and kill us and others!
yes talk about town and location names but you need to look farther than that. it gets so much worse, i promise
