Normal is this. Messy hair piled on your head as you laugh at the TV, smudged mascara under my eyes from laughing. It’s working long days apart, earning money to spend on things we’ve picked our ourselves, running home to each other at the end of the day like it’s been weeks since we’ve kissed. Normal is hot tea in bed on a Sunday morning, crumbs in the sheets, loud sex and louder screeches from reaching wriggling fingers. Ice cream when it’s too cold outside, running after chickens at the farm, singing at the tops of our voices on the drive home. Normal is spending our days off cleaning and tidying the little place we call our own. It’s having an ‘important’ folder, sharing a surname on bills, playing with the cats that know us as ‘mum and mumma’, having family over for tea and showing them the flowers and tomatoes we grew all on our own. Normal is the most glorious thing I have ever tasted. I dreamt of this as a 17 year old, alone in a house that made me sick to live in. I dreamt of you before I knew you existed. I dreamt of us when nothing else let me sleep at night. Normal is perfect.
