thoughts that go nowhere
-nemuro does not wear the white lab gown like the other 100 boys. it is another tool to alienate him from the crowd but it is also to show his lack of drive to achieve eternity/become a prince. (prince imagery and the color white.) i was wondering why in the fire scene he is colored so strangely but this is when he finally makes the decision to achieve eternity. he is completely white. it is also the color of ghost. nemuro is no longer here. he's already gone and it's only mikage. it's only a ghost.(also another instance of 'nemuro' being colored differently from the other characters. for it is never the past nemuro we're seeing but current mikage)
-the only times girls(and everyone who fails to be a 'man' in ohtori) are allowed to wield swords are when they are upholding protecting and maintaining the structure(juri. utena. nanami. black rose duelists and anthy in 38) while black rose circle seem to disrupt the current order by granting power to those who should stay by the sidelines but the power is always short lived. it is ultimately for someone else's goal. whose actions are controlled by the end of the world anyway. it is also repeating / feeding into their hate for the chosen and the special which helps keeping them blind of the harm from the structure itself and helps the machine keep running
-the camera repeating it's movement during utena and mikage's conversation in ep 23 is similar to that one from ep 37, right after the cantarella scene. no spinning roses but the roses are also present in ep 23 too. (they are in the greenhouse, mikage makes a comment about the roses at the start of that scene) conversation shrouded in obvious lies. dancing around the subject. the windowsil of the greenhouse is reused as a cross for the snippets of the church shortly later. the camera doesn't repeat its movement here.
-nanami episodes all have the fairytale intro because they are also fairytales. they are fable-versions of each arc. told through a fantasy like lens with nanami as the arc's duelists. <just realized why they have that intro two days ago i feel stupid as hell
