That's right, we're back to remind you that this party's still happening and everyone's still invited. I'm once again your gracious host @chaos-fantazy, ready to leave last year behind me and do everything in my power to make this our biggest AU contest yet. I'm joined by Differentopic owner @gonzalogamer128, co-creator of last year's winner "Knock Knock," @starlightshore, and @g0at0ad, who has too many potential claims to fame that listing them all here would take far too long.
You'll notice I didn't say "AU comic contest," though. That's because, for the first time, we will be running a second contest in parallel to our usual comic contestâan AU character design contest, the perfect way for you to participate even if you don't have the time to write a full comic. Spearheading the judge panel for that contest is @creatoonz, Flaredust and r2d2kx100. That contest will begin on Saturday, May 10th, about a month from nowâbut you can go ahead and start your preparations now!
If you'd like to know more, join our Discord server to find the full rules and keep up-to date on everything...or find more info under the cut!
Huh? What? AU Contest???
This contest is dedicated to celebrating how this fandom told stories to each other when it was first starting outâsprite comics, which, as their name implies, are a web comic that uses sprites rather than drawn artwork as the main means of depicting its subjects. They're commonly done to produce fan comics for video games, and Undertale is no exceptionâmany prolific AUs, including @invertedfate, began as sprite comics.
Like a game jam, this contest invites people to produce Undertale/Deltarune AU comics (And design AU characters!). Being a contest, there are prizes and glory on the line for the winners, but in the end, what it's really about is the chance for people to get creative. If youâve ever had an idea for a story you want to tell using these gamesâ characters or setting, but could never justify dedicating time to telling itâŚthis is the excuse you need!
Sorry, you mentioned prizes?
After last year, to minimize potential complications, I've been working with the judge panel to establish our prize pool ahead of time:
The character design contest is slated to have four categories; the winner of each category will have their winning character illustrated by one of our judges. (Who will draw which exactly is still a bit up in the air, but they'll definitely be available!)
The second- and third-place comics will receive an illustration from either G0at0ad or r2d2kx100 of a character of their choice, with simple background.
The grand prize for the winning comic will be a full-scale illustration from Starlight, complete with a background and up to two charactersâgiving you the opportunity to see one of your favorite scenes from the comic brought to life!
Sounds cool! How do I participate?
I'm glad you asked! Our official Discord server is not only the proper avenue to send a submission, it also contains all the official rules regarding the production and submission thereof.
The character design contest begins on May 10th and will run up through the end of Juneâslightly overlapping with the comic contest, which will start at the beginning of June and end at the end of August. I'll make announcement posts here when each contest begins and close to when they're ending, too.
It's roughly 8:30 PM EST on June 2nd, which means we're about 44 hours into the submission period for the comic contest! Pencils up, everyoneâyou've got work to do!
There's also a little less than a month left for submissions to the character contest. Multiple categories still don't have a single entrantâintrepid readers, you could win just for playing!

With the release of the genocide route plans, we can finally share one last proper part with you. A part that was actually finished all the way back when the comic was still actively being worked on, but couldn't share with you until now, as it revealed the hunter's true name: the name select screen.
Our original plans have fallen by the wayside for the time being, so the final document we have planned likely won't be releasing in three weeks as we originally plannedâin fact, I would not anticipate that document for a few months. This means there will be more time for you to send questions you'd like to have answered in our Q&A as part of that document, so if any burning questions remainâplease, ask away!
Those of you who have read last week's update are already aware that the six humans before Chara were originally planned to appear in the comic, albeit in a very subtle abstracted way that'd leave a lot of their design elements up to interpretation. I had personally looked forward to getting to show these characters off, so a while backâlong after I realized I wouldn't get to do so in the comic properâI conscripted @voltrathesparking to handle designing these characters instead.
Those designs are before you now, in the same order they were mentioned in last week's update: Clayton the Brave, April the Patient, Dr. Mason the Integrous, Carol the Kind, Xavier the Perseverant, and Vera the Just. Even though these characters couldn't be physically seen, I like to think they had a profound effect both seen and unseen on the Underground the humans after them know, and I always figured that getting to see them would be a great reward for completing this route of the story.

This document outlines what would have been ACT IV of the Scramble Saga comic. Again, if you got here without knowing what Scramble Saga is
The next part of the Scramble Saga plan dump is here! Read more of Frisk's journey as they witness a barroom brawl, climb a mountain inside a mountain, and narrowly evade getting shot.
Has Flowey received a redesign? Noticed in the document for his fight, he has a crown and cape while in the initial Ruins encounter, he, well, just looks like Flowey, or does he get the crown and cape by Waterfall?
Flowey wasn't redesigned, at least not overall. The extra embellishments to his design, i.e. the cloak and the crown, are specifically for the fight against him in Waterfall, just so he carries a little more intimidation factor there; wherever else he appears, he should be thought of as still having his initial design of a humble, unassuming golden flower with seven petals.
Hi. CHAOS_FANTAZY here. E-Clareâs here too, but Iâm doing most of the writing here. If youâve found this document, you probably already k
I've blustered about wanting to have Scramble Saga done for years now. Even though I wanted to work on it, I would beat my own ambitions down by thinking to myself I just couldn't present the story in a way that I was satisfied with.
But it's been long enough. Even if it isn't my original vision, I want it to be done. I want everyone who's waited all this time to have the ending to the story. So we're going to give it to you.
The above is a semi-organized write-up detailing all our old plans back when the comic was in active development, with absolutely minimal revisions and additions just for things to flow and make sense. There's a further preamble in the document itself; I'll let it do the talking. More bookkeeping under the cut:
This won't just be a one-off; we've already written much more than this. Our current plan is to release a new document detailing the next ACT (So the next one will cover all of Hotland, for instance) every 2-3 weeks or so until we're done.
I want to stress: everyone, if you have any questions about Scramble Saga for us, now is the time to ask them. We will be editing the documents we haven't released yet to organically fit in the answers to any such questions we receive if we're ableâand for those we're not, we plan on answering them in a miscellaneous Q&A document, to be released after all the main content documents are released. I want everyone who still has burning curiosity regarding this AU to walk away from this satisfied, even if this isn't exactly a glamorous delivery of our ideas.
I also want to know if there's any way other than a Google Doc you'd prefer to read these. I'm already considering porting these documents to Archive of Our Own, so let me know if there's demand.
That's all for now. I hope you're looking forward to the next part.
Yes, I still think about Scramble Saga frequently.
Yes, I do regret not finishing it. Rather frequently, actually.
No, that doesn't mean I'm actively working on it.
No, I can't point to any one thing in particular that made me stop working on it.
I guess after college, there was the quarantine, and really adult life in general has been simply exhaustingâso much worse than I ever could have guessed it would be.
No, that doesn't mean I've given up on Scramble Saga either.
I still really want to tell you guys what I had planned for this.
No, I don't know when I'm going to share it with you, or what form it's going to take.
For everyone who's still waiting, I'm really sorry.

It has been a year since the previous ChristmAUs, and this year, it comes bigger than ever before! Featuring a staggering 224 characters (not counting most snowmen), this has been one of the biggest collaborative projects Iâve ever done!Â
However, I of course didnât do this picture alone, so let us move into giving people their credits.
(Adding it as an addendum, do not repost the picture by itself.)
Now, the credits are arranged in âsubmissioner / AUâ instead of the usual merely crediting the artist or AU. Here we go!
Yes, we are alive and well. We had higher ambitions to get everything we promised done before everything thatâs happened this year...well, happened.
The project is effectively on indefinite hiatus for the time being. Iâm so sorry to everyone whoâs been patiently waiting for more information regarding how this project would continue, but the long and short of it is the weight of the world is a lot to bear right now, and energy to work on a project of this caliber is in short supply.
If youâd like to stay in touch with us and discuss some less spoilery parts of the AU more casually, youâre welcome to join our Discord server. For now, Iâm afraid thatâs all we can offer.
A Belated Happy New Year, and Whatâs Ahead for Us
Yes, another year has come and gone, and many of us celebrate to leave 2019 behind us. According to society, it is a good time to start anew, a good time to make amendsâŚa good time, perhaps, for us to stop lying to ourselves.
Yes, many of you have probably figured this out if youâve kept a close eye on how developmentâs actually gone, but only now are we finally willing to admit it to ourselves:Â Scramble Saga cannot continue, at least not in its current form.
We both had more time to work on Scramble Saga when we first startedâI was unemployed at the time, and Chaos was in the easy part of his college education. As time has gone on, though, our available time to dig in and work on ScrS has decreased significantly. Chaos and I both have jobs now, and itâs been hard to take what little time we have left to turn around and keep working on something weâve admittedly slowly been losing passion for.
We couldnât leave you all empty-handed, though. Weâve been sitting here behind the scenes trying to come up with the best way to tell you about all our plans, andâconsidering if it werenât for your continued patience and unending support, we probably wouldâve quit soonerâweâd appreciate your input on the matter.
Weâve opened a Google Forms survey to collect your feedback on what youâd like to seeâbe it specific boss fights, looks at as of yet unreached locations, or just the bits of re-written lore we had worked outâas well as how youâd like to see it. Â Gutting parts of the journey will probably do this regardless, but weâd like to preserve as much of the emotional context as we can, weâre just not sure what the best way to do that is.
-Clare
Chaos hereâitâs been a month or two, and this survey is still sitting around 35 responses. Thatâs less than 5% of our entire follower base. We want to do this for you, and I feel like itâd be meaningless to make a choice based off of this little information, so please consider taking the time to make a response. If nothing else, to let us know that you still care.

Hi, everyone! Yeah, we are still alive, we didnât get deleted from the face of the Earth by the Tumblr purge (In fact, results on that little poll were rather inconclusive, so for now weâre staying here). Weâre as tired as making excuses for delays as you are of hearing them, so suffice to say, life has just been doing a great job of getting in the way.
In light of the recent announcement regarding a certain smiley trash bagâs inclusion in a certain prestigious fighting game, though, we figure there is no better time to dust off this blog a bit. We intend to be releasing a new part, well, SOON [TM]. We canât promise the greatest of haste getting through the Waterfall arc, but we do at least want to get back into regular production again, instead of letting the project sit for as long as we have.
For the now, hereâs a preview image:
I would once again like to thank the audience for all their patience.
So itâs finally happening, is it? This website is self-destructing. I always thought it would happen...but not so soon and not over this.
None of our posts have been flagged, thankfully, and we intend to keep this blog running as long as we are allowed to. Nor have we exactly been hemorrhaging followersâbut many of our real-life friends have begun to close their accounts and move on to greener pastures. Iâm sure more than a few of you would be all too glad to jump off this ship, anchored here only by content producers like us.
We would be glad to leave as well, but we would be loath to abandon the following weâve amassed here as well. Those of you who have been with us from the beginning know that we started out on Reddit, but with our hiatus, there remains no audience there for us anymore.
With all that said, it seems prudent to find a new website to host Scramble Saga updates. If thereâs somewhere youâd like to see our AU be moved to as opposed to remaining here, please reach out to us and let us know what your choice would be.  Be prepared to support your argument, but we are pretty open to suggestions.
