New Pictures From The Monster Club
There’s a lot of talk about creepy clowns lately, but where’s the love for the classic primate monsters, werewolves, ghouls, and vampires at this time of year?
According to Vincent Price’s character Aramus in the movie The Monster Club, “Vampires sup, werewolves hunt, ghouls tear.” These are the rules of monsterdom. Shaddies lick, maddies yawn, and mocks blow. But Shadmocks only whistle. Now the humegoo, which is a cross between a ghoul and a human being, don’t really do anything interesting, but they do have an unfortunate appetite for carrion (which they get, of course, from the ghoul side of the family).
A monster’s genealogical chart by John Bolton
One of my minor regrets in life is I had an opportunity to buy a copy of the comic book produced from the script by Dezz Skinn and John Bolton. This copy was signed by Vincent Price. A copy was given to everyone in the crew at the wrap party.
Wish a Raddie or a Shaddies were on the Cubs right now and could turn the Giants into a pile of rubble. This is nerve wracking. I know the Cubs are going to get multiple shots at the World Series, but let’s get one like the Black Hawks did then be casual about it every time from then on.
Back to the Monster Club. Directed by Roy Ward Baker. The last production from Amicus and Hammer legendary producer Milton Subotski. Starring Vincent Price, Donald Pleasance, John Carradine. Mixes musical interludes with three short horror stories from the book by R Chetwynd Hayes.
In my personal collection is the French movie poster, the English quad poster, the VHS from Thriller Video, the Beta tape from Thriller Video, and the Monster Club soundtrack from Chips records.
I first saw the movie on Movie Macabre in 1983. And I made a copy on VHS from Video Outlet in 1991 that I still play to this day and it has never worn out.
Got to love a movie that features an entire story about the underappreciated ghoul. Some great artwork by John Bolton in this story. I almost bought one of the original illustrations he did for the third story, but balked on that, too. There’s a fine line between being a fan and being broke. This third story about a village of ghouls is my favorite in the movie and the only one that packs any real scares in it, although lack of scary moments is not a problem for me as The Monster Club was originally meant for a television audience and can be watched by anyone you’d allow to watch a PG 13 movie.
John Bolton ghoul illustration. Would love to have one of these, probably will never get one.
If you get the Thriller Video Elvira, Mistress of the Dark will introduce the movie then pitch other Thriller Videos at the end, but since it’s not the Movie Macabre episode you won’t see her inserts during the movie, which is s shame. I’d like to find a collection of those original Movie Macabres.
I have seen The Monster Club on television, on DVD, on You Tube, on Netflix, Hulu, on Beta, and VHS, and it's possible there are formats I a...

Five pieces of outsider art by Ian Pyper at the internet’s number one source for outsider art and outsider poetry
The Rockford Poetry Files, Night Two
While my burrito cools down in the microwave and I watch the first of two episodes of Barney Miller on AntennaTV, I’ve decided maybe at this time each night I’ll just do a free write at one of these twenty or so ridiculous blogs. Like someone else’s house, this was once someone else’s blog. No idea who Tigerkitty was.
Maybe I’ll call the nightly free write The Rockford Poetry Files. Seems like I already am. I have two projects in the fire right now: one facetious, and the other deadly serious. The facetious project is The Outsider Poetry Slam League of America, or OPSLA. I’ve changed the acronym now seven or eight times, which might be a good indicator of why Google has no idea what I’m talking about. Today I created a team for Rockford called The Rockford Pages, a takeoff on The Rockford Peaches immortalized in the movie A League of Their Own. I guess I created a mythical league of their own for fictional Rockford slam poets.
The more serious project is the book The Blood Dark Sea by Outlaw Poet Dennis Gulling. I was doing some final edits on the book late last night, and I looked outside the window and the moon was huge and orange over the Old City Hall Building.
It looks like that, except my view is from the back side where my apartment is. The moon was right over the building for a few minutes, but sunk very fast when I noticed. At one time I almost got an apartment in the building, but I really wanted one of the basement apartments that had been the city jail a century ago.
That is the type of imagery replete in the book, which I just signed an estimate form for today. The files might be sent off to the printer as early as next week. Interesting. I just noticed the buildings behind and next to Old City Hall in this postcard are no longer there. Also, people tend to not ride around in buggies anymore.
Calvin Trillin and Charles Grodin on Johnny Carson tonight, which should be a real wit fest. I remember when Grodin was initially promoting the book he’ll be on the show talking about tonight, It Would Be So Nice If You Weren’t There. I always thought that was a funny title. At midnight (9 minutes) I’ll watch The Rockford Files, which I’m really getting into, then that Carson show, and maybe go to bed early, if you call 2 a.m. early.
Unless that moon is out again even bigger and more orange.
Of course I’m sixty-five words away from 500 here, so maybe I’ll stick it out. I’ve seen all of these episodes of Barney Miller before, and I’m starting to wonder if they show the same episodes because of clearances in syndication. I wonder if they get the full slate of shows to broadcast in any order they wish, or if for some reason certain episodes they just don’t get in their syndication package. For instance, they’re showing The Incredible Hulk from episode one. I missed all but the ending last Saturday, but I won’t make that mistake again tomorrow night. Maybe me and Jack will watch.
Outlaw Poetry is a subgenre of poetry that doesn't get much respect. Probably a primary reason for that is that outlaw reject the academic world and therefore do not have the influence college professors have to steer the direction of text books and impressionable students who tend to believe what they are taught is all

Open Letter In Defense of Journal of Outsider Poetry Editor Dr. Henry Wolfsburg
Editing a poetry journal is hard. Working with the mentally ill is hard. Editing a poetry journal created exclusively by the mentally ill while simultaneously fighting the entire psychiatric community is even harder, but that’s the situation my friend Dr. Henry Wolfsburg finds himself in almost daily.
One of the last Psychoanalysts personally trained by Carl Jung, Dr. Wolfsburg has integrated the concepts of the collective unconscious, archetypes, and complexes into a coherent hybrid with poetry therapy he uses to treat and often times cure the mentally ill. But because his methods are unorthodox, he has run into constant derision and criticism from the staid psychiatric community.
I am here to say my friend Dr. Henry Wolfsburg is a talented clinician, a deep and thoughtful advocate for the mentally ill, and a caring and astute editor of outsider poetry. The new mental health community is reticent to accept any new techniques that do not involve psychopharmacological solutions.
Anyway, I just dropped my first Tylenol on my second root canal in two weeks, so I don’t have much of a mood for all that kind of silliness. I call for the harassment of Dr. Wolfsburg and the wonderful Journal of Outsider Poetry to stop. Begin supporting those who believe mental illness is not a life sentence of slavery to medication and unsympathetic health care professionals. Those with mental health issues have just as much right and capacity to create as anyone else, and should be encouraged in clinical settings to express themselves and their thoughts and feelings.
Keep up the good work, Dr. Wolfsburg.

The Monsters Club
All through the mid 60s and mid 70s Amicus Productions produced a progression of sublime repulsiveness compilations including: DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS (1965), TORTURE GARDEN (1967), THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD (1970), ASYLUM (1972), THE VAULT OF HORROR (1973, second best of the bundle), FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE (1973), and TALES FROM THE CRYPT (1972, which is my untouched most loved frightfulness compilation!)
THE MONSTER CLUB includes the incredible performing artists Vincent Price, John Carradine, Donald Pleasence, and the stunning Britt Ekland.
The film starts as Vincent Price, as vampire Eramus puts the nibble on fiction essayist R. Chetwynd-Hayes (played by John Carradine). Cost is in top-structure, obviously. He is, no ifs ands or buts the best loathsomeness performing artist ever. I have everything except one of his blood and gore movies on DVD.
On the other hand, MONSTER CLUB is a compilation, contained just three stories in addition to a wraparound (the wraparound is the 'in the middle of' story that ties the rest together). I adore treasurys; both for the hits and the misses… my general feeling is that about a large portion of the stories work; and, the others not all that well. This is really a special case to that run the show!
The Shadmock Story includes a few searching for their next huge score. It comes as Angela taking a position of classifying antiqes for an odd-looking man, who once in a while leaves his huge bequest. He appears to be sufficiently decent, regardless of his ghoulish appearance; and, he has an enticing measure of assets ready for the taking. The man gets to be captivated with Angela; and, proposes marriage. Things soon acrid amid the engagement party, as we discover that the odd-looking individual has an intriguing technique for managing the individuals who outrage him.
The Vampire Story manages a modest, young man and his guardians. His dad has work that obliges him to stay out throughout the night, and rest amid the day. The kid discovers that his dad is a tally who fled another nation under bothered circumstances. Clearly, the story manages vampires and vampires seekers; in any case, with an amazement turn!
The Humgoo Story tells a story of a chief scouting areas for a blood and gore movie. Brandishing about the wide open in his Porsche 911 SC Targa. He is searching for a town with heaps of environment. Things being what they are the town he finds is populated by devils. What's more, they have gets ready for him. The notes from the since quite a while ago expired town minister offer a stunning method for telling the tale of how the town was assaulted by fiends. It's a sublime story…
The wraparound story happens in the Monster Club itself. It elements captivating dialog between Vincent Price and John Carradine, as a lead in for the stories. The new wave 1980s stone music is awesome. There are astounding enhancements amid the second or third act, which includes a stripper. When you see the stripper's demonstration, you will be surprised.
For me, Amicus truly characterized the frightfulness treasury. General the stories in MONSTER CLUB are a flat out hoot. I can't better portray the motion picture, but to reword Winston Churchill. It is a drama, wrapped in a frightfulness collection, wrapped in the puzzler of low-spending plan f
