Wally Wood — Fully Computerized
I'm aware that some people's pet peeve is the overuse of the word 'genius' and other such. But I do not use that word lightly when I refer to the EC gang. The whole motley crew was pure genius at what they were capable of. And Bill Gaines was genius for recognizing and fostering their genius, both at EC proper and later Mad magazine. This piece by Wally Wood, which I don't think was for EC in any way, is genius for its organized complexity—seemingly effortless in its execution. Zoom in on the figures and see how fully realized they are! I cannot overuse the word when it comes to EC guys—they were geniuses!

Here’s a great post, in two parts, from letterer/designer Alex Jay about his time spent designing the logo for Marvel/Epic’s release of The Airtight Garage, specifically for the periodical four-issue version, which came after the Moebius 3: The Airtight Garage graphic novel. His posts are incredibly extensive, and are a good example of how much work gets put into one logo design job:

My inspiration for rendering the new Agent K logo traditionally, with ink on vellum. In addition to the nuts and bolts, Alex Jay also shows a ruler with the drawings. This is a major gift to any comics logo designer.

My latest gift to myself. I can’t tell you how much it cost me…because that would be shameful. But I had to have it.
