I’m Not Just Going to Do What Kurosaki kun Says AKA The Black Devil and the White Prince

Well, I hope she eventually will! The older I get the less I enjoy watching high school dramas, which is ironic considering that among my first ones belong Goong, HYD or Hana Kimi. However, “Kurosaki-kun No IInari Ni Nante Naranai”, starring Komatsu Nana, Nakajima Kento and Chiba Yudai, is a perfect adaptation of shojo manga by Makino. It really is pretty as a manga panel and much better than the original. The actual movie has premiered only a fortnight ago, so it will take quite a long time before the DVD release, fortunately for us, NTV aired a swoonworthy 2-episode lead-in drama special back in December. 

What can I say - it’s basically the high school romance of my fantasies - Akabane Yu is a former ugly duckling and doormat bullied at her former school who moves into a dormitory after her father was transfered abroad and tries to turn over a new leaf, whereas Kurosaki Haruto is the titular “devil” who she manages to cross even before she steps into her new home.

“I…I’m not…I’m not afraid of you.”

In her attempt to turn over a new leaf, Yu tries to stick up for a boy who she thinks Haruto is bullying, only to fail hilariously while putting on an endearingly false bravado facade which only manages to provoke him even more. I love the way he observes her from a milimeter-distance  - as if he had to make sure from up close whether she is merely stupid or completely daft - and in that moment his long hair get entangled in her cardigan button! LOL! He gives her 5 seconds to deal with it, so she does and CUTS IT! DOUBLE LOL! Yu does the sensible thing and runs, but Haruto STOPS HER WITH FOUR KABEDONS IN A SINGLE MINUTE (making use of all his limbs in the process which gets him points for originality in my book!)! People we have a world record here! THEN HE GRABS HER CHIN AND KISSES HER RIGHT ON HER MOUTH!!! I’M SAILING THIS SHIP SO DAMN HARD!!!

I’m even excited to rewatch the revival again when it comes out on DVD at the end of this month. That’s a measure of just how addicted I am to this show :-)

Kevin Spacey. just overall. i love him

when he goes to get coffee and he’s listening to Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl you can see the lyrics graffiti-ed on the walls and poles and stuff behind him as he’s walking

when Baby is ordering coffee and he goes “yeah yeah yeah” in time with the song

Baby reciting back the entire plan and then looking at Bats and going “questions?”

“That’s my Baby.” “Fuck yo’ Baby.”

the gunshots are perfectly in time with the music during every fight sequence

when Buddy cocks Darling’s gun for her

Jamie Foxx’s character was unpredictable, and a little unnerving. He wasn’t like terrifying but there definitely were moments where I wasn’t sure what he was gonna do and it made me nervous

side note my dad was peeing when Bats died and when he came back and I told him Baby killed Bats he went “ah, good.”

“You took something from me that I love, now you know I gotta do the same to you.” Oh yea for sure he’s gonna shoot Deb- FUCK

that part was honestly so good I spent like 5 minutes with my mouth hanging open like fuck you Buddy you can’t take that away from him :’( 

but it also shows that Buddy really understood Baby and remember that he kinda stood up for Baby and they were bonding a lil with music and stuff it just shows how unpredictable he was

I have legitimately been listening to the soundtrack for this movie since I saw it a week ago today

if Edgar Wright and James Gunn made a movie together I would die immediately upon entering the theater
