It is a little concept of the first page for the future comic I am planning to make. (I will redraw it, I just needed to get it out of my head). Ā
I want to write the story about Jim and Spock meeting after 10-15 years from the last day of their missing, which was also the day where they decided to break up (which was probably very bad and painful). Spock spent them on New Vulcan, Jim - in Starfleet. And they meet after a very long timeā¦ The most interesting point for me is the fact that time goes differently for each of them. During this time, Spock has hardly changed in appearance, while for Jim, a person, 10 years is quite a long timeā¦

I liked the idea of Kirk visiting home sometime while already a Cadet at Starfleet, dreaming of being somewhere else (or on a certain ship...).

Iāve heard several people point out that while AOS Bones is shown going to Starfleet Academy with Kirk, TOS Bones never went to Starfleet Academy and Iām curious if anyone has any references? I donāt remember this.Ā
hmmā¦ iām not sure if this is what youāre looking for, but memory alphaās page on bones says that ds9ā²sĀ ātrials and tribble-ationsā established that he went to the university of mississippi, not starfleet academy. the page also says that tosāsĀ āthe ultimate computer,ā spock has to explain a term to bones that he would have understood if he had gone to the academy. so i guess the assumption that bones didnāt go to starfleet academy (and just got a commission from starfleet instead) comes from those two things?

But thatās interesting, because I always interpreted theĀ āwent to the university of Mississippiā thing to mean he got his doctorate there (to be a licensed medical doctor) and then went to the academy sometime after his divorce. Like people can (and often do) go to multiple higher learning institutions. But if qualified people can get commissions to do their jobs in space instead of having to go through the whole program, thatās an interesting avenue to explore. It might also explain why TOS Bones always felt more like a transplanted country doctor in space to me than AOS Bones who feels more like a Starfleet doctor.Ā
Not sure if this really applies, but I always interpreted TOS Bones as having little to no Starfleet training - just medical training - because he sometimes seems absolutely clueless about the workings of the ship and is definitely a little lost about the various cultures of the Federation.
I always kind of thought (and headcanoned) that TOS Bones was working as a country doctor in Georgia when he made a major medical breakthrough which garnered the interest of Starfleet. Starfleet pretty much showed up and said āyou work for us nowā and Bones just went with it (what else was he going to do? Besides, heād just found out his wife was cheating on him).
Thatās why he always says āIām just a country doctor.ā Because he literally was until Starfleet placed him in their ranks, and he still sometimes feels upset about his lack of choice in the matter, and heāll always see himself as a bit of an outsider - an outstanding doctor, but a country doctor - because he wasnāt trained at the Academy like the others.
I definitely think thereās room for that interpretation. TOS bones does seem pretty clueless about how starships work. And the idea of Starfleet just plucking him out of Georgia, maybe handing him a short certification quiz and throwing him onto a starship is really funny to me. XD
