There's a lot to be asked about this game, especially in regards to the weird route, but one in particular has glared in my mind: why focus so hard on Noelle?

I understand that we are supposed to be the soul, but it is worth noting that not every choice is ours. We are still choosing between two predefined choices, which raises other questions about what exactly the Soul is, and if it's even got motives of its own, separate from us. Different question for a different day.

I think Noelle was chosen for a few reasons.

She's easily manipulated

She can replace Susie in the prophecy

She is strong

I can't find it rn (I'm lazy) , but in chapter 4, Ralsei makes a big deal out of the prophecy being specific and exact (when it mentions Lancer). And yet, there is one panel that was neither specific or exact...

LOVE FINDS ITS WAY TO THE GIRL

Interesting. One could say, very, very interesting.

Let's break that down.

Part 1: LOVE

If you've played UNDERTALE, you're probably aware of one of the biggest stretches the game makes, in a line that makes sense, but reads as rather corny and like he really wanted to make the acronym work:

One could say that the entirety of Chapter 2's weird route is brainwashing Noelle into "becoming stronger", distancing herself further and further until she is willing to freeze any enemy...

Part 2: Souls, Swords, and "the girl".

Now that alone would be a stretch on my part, but look at the "girl" a little closer.

Notice it?

Doesn't it look like there's a soul in there? And look at the sword! Doesn't that look like Kris's sword? In fact, we never see Susie carry anything other than an axe, or any other character carry a sword. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't think Kris is going to stop being non-binary at any point in the game, so that leaves 2 main girls.

I think at some point, either Susie or Noelle will be playable via the Soul, and they're interchangeable under the prophecy. Why else be so vague? In the weird route, WE will choose Noelle, while in the normal route, Kris will choose Susie.

One more small note, probably nothing:

So, I know in this scene, it's thorns that represent the destruction of innocence, but it also looks somewhat root-like to me: the seed has sprouted and begun to take root. Just a small thing.
