A small stop-motion test with a doll I made last month. She’s wearing my real actual hair.
Genuinely, one of the measures that's stopped book banning the most when districts implement it, is having the would-be banners fill out a form that demonstrates if they've read the book or not. Like where they have the summarize the plot and characters and do a mini book report and give a review. It stops them in their tracks. This is why in my high school, every time someone wanted to ban a book it ended up going nowhere. There was one where a conservative student wanted to ban the manga "Legal Drug" for having a marijuana leaf on the cover, then got the form that required them to actually read and either balked, or read it and realized it was not pro-drug at all. (The other one that reduces book bans even further is "requiring the would-be banner to be affiliated with this actual school in some way, either by being a student, faculty/staff or a parent of a child at the school" because the vast majority of bans are "activists" with no affiliation with the school who just travel around trying to do this in districts all over the U.S. IIRC a few years ago someone crunched the numbers and just 51 parents were responsible for all the book bans that year nationally. 51! In a country with 50 states, with over 300 million people total!)
Laws like this indeed do a lot to stop fascist book censorship. They can also help legally protect librarians from getting fired or harassed for keeping books on the shelves! Some states like Rhode Island have already passed these laws. If you're in a blue state, look up whether you have laws like this on the books. MAYBE your state is trying to get one passed right now, like New York's Freedom to Read bill. call your state elected officials to voice support for it.
Unsounded First Thoughts (Continued)
I have finished Chapters 5, 6, and 7 and whew!! I think I have plenty to talk about and I wanted to make another post, so much has happened! I might take a little break for a week from reading and I think this would be a good place to leave off, but excited for more!
Warning, this is going to be a longer and more rambling than the first 😅

So uh….some dude apparently recreated Adobe Photoshop feature-for-feature, for FREE, and it runs in your browser.
Anyway, fuck Adobe, and enjoy!
Give credit to the 30-year-old who worked on this for free and offers this service for free!
WHAT?!
I study graphic design and my tutor recommended and used this in his classes at art college last year, it’s so good it has SO many features for free, I really recommend it, even if you’re just trying to learn the basics of PS, such a wonderful thing <3
I use this and it’s fucken great. No bullshit. Really works. Sometimes the world is kind.

I love when information revealed at the end of a story recontextualizes something said or done at the beginning. Like yes queen make the story a loop let the story keep developing even though the book is closed and the credits are rolling. The story never ends it just starts over.

Last song: Been on a TOOL kick recently. Waaasss Prison Sex (viewer discretion- subject matter is csa)
Currently Watching: nothing
Current Obsession: im kinda bouncin around between a few things, like different aspects of bookbinding- like paper weights and materials- then more ancillary things to that like how i wanna do the art for 1 of the projects im (slowly) starting, what font and color pallette imma use ect. Then just standard brainrot like latching onto a rarepair ship.
Currently Reading: still 'Flowers for Algernon' and 'Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts' and also re-reading large chunks of The Neverending Story and Rossums Universal Robot stageplay while fixing the formatting and other problems
Currently Working On: various bookbinding projects- the main one thats def gonna take like 2 yrs absolute minimum is the neverending story but im gonna make a version specifically for ME with blackjack and strippers. But as mentioned im also doing smaller ones to get good. I still needta do the cover for The Fate of a Man (came out too dark) and im doin R.U.R next. Oh also a fuckin 10 page bjornfinn comic i work on when im tired of that. My attempt to make my case why i think it could be interesting 😤 also might paint my room soon

Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” that was written in 1950 is set on the day of August 4th, 2026 (tomorrow)!! Now’s your chance to read it around the time it’s based in!
Audio: A recording of Leonard Nimoy reading it on Internet Archive.
Text: A PDF version.
Graphic Novel: On Internet Archive.
I used to set this one for second year undergraduate creative writing seminars on writing science fiction on a double bill with Octavia E. Butler's "Bloodchild" and no-one here gets out alive.
!!!! Today is the only chance we’ll ever have to listen to this absolute banger of apocalyptic fiction on the very day the story is set 😲✨
Nemoy’s voice is PERFECT in this!
(A content warning if you do listen - the dog dies, though it’s not super graphic)
I paused the robot vacuum so I could listen to this 1950’s story predicting the robot vacuum.

There's really this strong temptation that everyone has which basically says "to have interiority is to be like me; ordinary people are surface everywhere." And this manifests in different ways in different spaces, and becomes really pronounced when you cluster together with similar people. So tumblr users often act like straight people don't have any interiority because it helps you feel the deepening of social bonds with other gay people. This happens professionally too. I think it was Summer or Sharks who was saying that programming people think that intelligence is just being really good at writing code. Not surprising but very strange to me! I am (equally ridiculously) used to thinking that intelligence is being really good at philosophy, having command of a lot of sources that you can use creatively, etc. This reflects a kind of dynamic on tumblr and reddit. On reddit to have interiority is to be a science guy and on tumblr to have interiority is to be a humanities girl (and the dynamic is gendered in exactly this way). And I think there is something dangerous about habitually regarding other people as automatons. It's good to have people outside of your niche to remind you that other people from different walks of life are quite deep and complicated. They are full of love and fine grained attention to things you never thought to care about. And I think a lot of people go through life thinking of themselves as perpetually victimized by basically empty people rather than having genuine confrontations with full, genuine people who are committed to subtle, complex and real values, who have detailed and intricate histories, and who have a bond to you that you might never quite fully understand. But we rarely even try at understanding these things. We just decide that they're stupid and ridiculous and unreasonable.
Was readin about how medieval manuscripts were made- idk if it was common but an option for applying gold foil was apparently garlic juice- so did the book smell like garlic? - if so is that why vampires dont like garlic? Its the smell of beautifully illuminated bibles thatd be housed in a monestary all extra holy style?
I was scrolling reddit and have lately been getting spammed by the r/SparkingZero subreddit against my will lol. Came across a post showing Gohan doing a kamehameha in this fit and just HAD to draw it.

If you're still taking requests, I'd love to ask for some type of blinkie gif depicting Olmar! Your choice on which version of him to depict (farmland arc or post farmland arc) but I would like him to have his mustache. Other than that, total creative freedom!
Thank you for the chance!
Yes, happy you asked. :)
The runes on the right are a possible transliteration of "Olmar": ᚢᛚᛘᛅᚱ. The direct transliteration of "ᚢᛚᛘᛅᚱ" is "u l m a r". There is a character sometimes used specifically for "o" in Younger Futhark runes (ᚬ), but ᚢ is more commonly used to represent "o" (and a variety of other sounds). As I mentioned on the Askeladd blinkie post, there's not a single fixed way of spelling things in Norse runes, like there's also an alternative "R" I could've used. I just do what seems like would be the most common spelling, or a common spelling, based on my research (at one point I went down a months-long rabbit hole of learning about runes).
Here ya go!
